Event: Global Reporting Initiative South Asia Conference [viewed]

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) South Asia Conference, organized by GRI in collaboration with the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA), the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), and the Centre for Responsible Business (CRB), will focus on the theme, “Sustainability Reporting for a Sustainable Economy”. It is designed to introduce businesses to trends in sustainability reporting, GRI guidelines and the reporting process through a half-day master class followed by presentations and a panel discussion.

EU, China Partner to Promote the Transition to a Low Carbon Economy [viewed]

20 September 2012: Andris Piebalgs, European Commissioner for Development, and Chinese Minister of Commerce Chen Deming have signed an agreement to help finance efforts to reach environmental, energy- and carbon-intensity targets. The agreement will contribute to reducing Chinese greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

UNEP Executive Director Commits to Increased Assistance to Africa at AMCEN [viewed]

UNEP12 September 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Executive Director Achim Steiner addressed African ministers attending the 14th session of the African Ministerial Conference for the Environment (AMCEN), convening from 7-14 September 2012, in Arusha, Tanzania. Steiner underscored UNEP's commitment to assist African States in making the transition to a Green Economy, negotiating a new climate treaty, building awareness on chemicals and hazardous wastes, and improving the management of drylands.

Event: Fourth Clean Energy Ministerial [viewed]

The fourth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM4) will bring together ministers from more than 20 participating countries under the theme of "Technology and Business Innovation". Topics to be discussed include: progress by the 13 clean energy initiatives of CEM; enhancing cooperation between CEM governments; and the development of public-private partnerships to support clean energy development. Six high-level public-private roundtables will be held to discuss: solar photovoltaics; clean vehicles; power markets in emerging economies; renewable policy and finance; energy management systems; and mini-grid development. CEM4 will also hold an Innovation Showcase Pavilion that will be open to the public to highlight 40 groundbreaking clean technologies from 16-18 April. Following the opening of the Pavilion, a Clean Energy Education and Empowerment (C3E) Women in Clean Energy event will be held, which will include: opening remarks by representatives from India and South Africa; a short film introducing C3E; and a panel discussion on “Women and Clean Energy Innovation.” The Super-Efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment (SEAD) initiative will also present the SEAD Global Efficiency Medal Awards for the most energy-efficient commercially available flat-panel televisions on 17 April.

Climate Finance Investment Facility Calls for Proposals from Asia-Pacific Region [viewed]

5 September 2012: The Climate Finance Innovation Facility (CFIF), managed by the Frankfurt School – UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Collaborating Centre for Climate and Sustainable Energy Finance, has launched its third Call for Proposals. CFIF invites applications from financial institutions based in Asia-Pacific developing countries, to be submitted by 30 September 2012.

ILO Green Jobs Programme Supports Training in Haiti [viewed]

ILO31 August 2012: The International Labour Organization (ILO) is sponsoring efforts to help people in Haiti transition from livelihoods that degrade the environment to "green jobs" that restore it, following the 2010 earthquake in the country. Project outcomes are expected to address food insecurity, create jobs and restore the environment.

REEEP Calls for Clean Energy Projects with Growth Potential [viewed]

23 August 2012: The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) has released a Call for Proposals for its ninth programme cycle, focusing specifically on projects with large potential for clean energy growth. As the maximum amount of funding per project is limited to €150,000, REEEP will give preference to projects that can provide proof of co-funding from other sources.
