UNECE-FAO Workshop Highlights Green Building for Climate Change Mitigation [viewed]
21 October 2009: A workshop on “Responding to climate change: wood's place in a global approach to green building,” was organized by the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) during the Timber Committee Week, held from 12-16 October 2009. Among the workshop's conclusions was agreement that green building is a solution to climate change mitigation: energy-efficient construction for new buildings and renovation of existing buildings can reduce 40-50% of energy used for space and water heating.
20 October 2009: Two new projects developed by the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) aim to help achieve a sustainable transformation of energy practices in South Africa and promote environmentally-friendly production in Tunisia. 
October 2009: The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) has released a report entitled “Greening Growth in Asia and the Pacific.”
9 October 2009: From 7-9 October 2009, the Global Renewable Energy Forum 2009, co-organized by the Ministry of Energy of Mexico and the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), brought together over 2000 participants from over 73 countries, including 30 ministers and high-level representatives, to discuss “Scaling up Renewable Energy.”
6 October 2009: The International Labour Organization (ILO) has a launched a new project to reduce the impact of changing weather patterns on the local economy. 
9 October 2009: On World Post Day, celebrated annually on 9 October, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) has called attention to its initiative to measure the postal industry's carbon footprint, with the objective of proposing industry-wide measures to reduce it. 
6 October 2009: A legally binding instrument on pollutant release and transfer registers will enter into force on 8 October 2009, and help identify, among others, emitters of certain greenhouse gases across Europe. 
28 September 2009: At the first ever Virtual International Symposium on Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and Climate Change, held on 23 September 2009, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) said it would press for recognition in Copenhagen of the importance of ICTs as a cross-sectoral tool to combat climate change. 
24 September 2009: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has released a report entitled “Climate Change Science Compendium 2009.” The report, compiled in association with scientists around the world, reviews some 400 major scientific contributions to our understanding of Earth Systems and climate change that have been released through peer-reviewed literature, or from research institutions, over the last three years. 
23 September 2009: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has released a story on the importance of proper crop management for mitigating climate change, and the role nuclear technologies play in effective soil management.
