26 May 2010: The World Bank released its annual State and Trends of the Carbon Market report at Carbon Expo in Cologne, Germany, on 26 May. The report indicates that the value of the global carbon market grew six percent, to US$144 billion, in 2009 despite being its most challenging year to date.
26 May 2010: The European Commission has released an analysis of the costs, benefits and options for moving beyond the EU's 2020 greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction target from 20% to 30% below 1990 levels, once the conditions are met.
19 May 2010: The 66th Commission Session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) convened from 13-19 May 2010, in Incheon, Republic of Korea. Representatives from 53 countries of the region and nine associate States discussed regional development policies, including green growth, and adopted the Incheon Declaration.
19 May 2010: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has released a publication titled "Good Practice Guidance on the Sustainable Mobilization of Wood in Europe," which provides an overview of measures countries can take to mobilize their wood resources to help Europe reach its renewable energy objective of 20% by 2020.
May 2010: The International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) has released a policy brief titled "South-South Cooperation - The Same Old Game or a New Paradigm?" The brief addresses various dimensions of the challenges and opportunities arising from the rapid increase in the number of emerging economies due to their greater involvement in development cooperation to address global challenges, such as industrial development, technology transfer and climate change.
18 May 2010: Jose Manual Barroso, President of the European Commission, launched the Latin America Investment Facility (LAIF), on the side lines of the VI EU-Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) Summit of Heads of State and Government Summit, which met in Madrid, Spain, on 18 May 2010.
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), in collaboration with the Club of Madrid and the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, will host the 2010 Urban Roundtable for Mayors and Ministers to identify key policies for the contribution of cities to a global green growth strategy. The event will bring city majors, former heads of state and government, various ministers and business leaders together to form a common policy agenda for cities' contribution the global Green Growth Strategy the OECD is to develop under the auspices of the Declaration on Green Growth that was adopted by Ministers of Economy, Finance, Trade and Foreign Affairs of 34 countries in June 2009. Three themes will dominate the event: the importance of cities to the development of the Green Growth Strategy; the potential and reality of creating green jobs in urban areas; and national-local implementation and financing of green urban development.
