AfDB31 May 2013: The 48th Annual Meeting of the African Development Bank (AfDB) concluded with the adoption of the Bank's Ten Year Strategy 2013-2022 and 2012 Annual Report, as well as a resolution to return the Bank's headquarters to Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. Other key deliberations at the meeting focused on financing infrastructure, sustaining economic growth, and replenishing the African Development Fund (ADF).

Event: 2013 G20 Leaders Summit [viewed]

The Russian Federation has set as the objective of its 2013 Presidency of the Group of 20 (G20): developing a set of measures aimed at boosting sustainable, inclusive and balanced growth and jobs creation around the world. The G20 will look at eight areas in particular in 2013: framework for strong, sustainable and balanced growth; jobs and employment; international financial architecture reform; strengthening financial regulation; energy sustainability; development for all; enhancing multilateral trade; and fighting corruption. The G20 brings together finance ministers and central bank governors from 19 countries - Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK and the US - plus the EU. The G20 Leaders Summit in September 2013 is preceded by a series of outreach events organized in five streams: think tanks; business; labour; civil society and youth.

UNEP Report Analyzes Green Economy and Trade Opportunities in Developing Countries [viewed]

Event: Caring for Climate Business Forum: Innovation. Ambition. Collaboration [viewed]

The inaugural Caring for Climate Business Forum – Innovation, Ambition, Collaboration – will meet from 19-20 November 2013, in Warsaw, Poland, on the sidelines of the 19th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 19) to the UN Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). For the first time, the Global Compact, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UNFCCC Secretariat are organizing this invitation-only event, which will showcase the contributions that business and investors can make towards climate action, while providing a high-level platform for exchange and collaboration with policymakers. More specifically, the Forum aims to: bring greater scale to business innovation on climate change; further encourage business and governments to raise ambition on climate policies; and encourage collaboration among business, the UN, governments and other stakeholders. New activities, resources, commitments and public-private partnerships are expected to be announced during the Forum. In addition to plenary sessions and thematic action workshops, a high-level meeting on 20 November will convene to: discuss a compendium of climate practices, innovations, collaborations and commitments to action across key climate change themes; and put forward recommendations for government actions that would help bring greater scale and quality to corporate climate leadership globally. It is expected the Forum will become an annual event.

CIF Increases Support to Solar Energy, Establishes Index of the Business Environment for Energy [viewed]

cif_logo6 May 2013: During their 2013 annual meeting, the Trust Fund Committees and Sub-Committees of the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) approved five revised Investment Plans for the Clean Technology Fund (CTF), and established a global index of the business environment for energy aiming to improve opportunities for investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy access under the Program for Scaling Up Renewable Energy in Low Income Countries (SREP).
