ILO, UNEP Highlight Opportunities for Decent Jobs in a Green Economy [viewed]

ILO31 May 2012: The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) have released a joint study titled "Working towards sustainable development: Opportunities for decent work and social inclusion in a green economy,” which highlights that the transformation to a greener economy could generate 15 to 60 million additional jobs globally over the next two decades and lift tens of millions of workers out of poverty.

SOWR 2012 Addresses Gap for People Displaced by Climate Change [viewed]

31 May 2012: The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has launched its flagship publication, "The State of the World's Refugees," which provides a global update on the status of refugees since 2006. The report examines the international response to displacement resulting from climate change and natural disasters, highlighting a normative gap in the protection of people displaced across borders owing to these phenomena, which will need to be address by the international community.

IEA Releases Roadmap for Sustainable Deployment of Bioenergy for Heat and Power [viewed]

IEA30 May 2012: The International Energy Agency (IEA), as part of its Technology Roadmap series covering 19 supply and demand side energy technologies, has published the "Technology Roadmap: Bioenergy for Heat and Power," which discusses the current state of bioenergy, including sustainability issues and economic perspectives, and recommends actions to increase sustainable bioenergy deployment.

UN-HABITAT Workshop Focuses on Climate Change and Decentralization in Asia and Pacific [viewed]

UN-HABITAT29 May 2012: The UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) organized a two-day workshop on Climate Change and Decentralization in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The workshop aimed at identifying strategies for better decentralization of climate change action and focused on how climate change initiatives can be improved through localized participatory approaches and multi-level governance.

EEA Confirms European GHG Emissions Increase in 2010 [viewed]

EEA30 May 2012: The European Environment Agency (EEA) has released the Annual EU greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory for 1990–2010 and inventory report for 2012, which confirm that GHG emissions of EU member States increased by 2.4% (111 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent) in 2010.

UNOCHA Report Highlights Humanitarian Assistance to Climate-Related Emergencies [viewed]

29 May 2012: The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) has released the annual report of the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), which provides coordinated humanitarian response to countries in crises. The report highlights that climate-related emergencies tops all categories of humanitarian assistance, with $149 million provided in financial assistance.
