World Environment Day Celebrations Focus on Green Economy [viewed]
5 June 2012: Millions of people celebrated World Environment Day (WED) around the theme, “Green Economy: Does it Include You?” highlighting the central role of communities in the transition to a low-carbon, resource-efficient and socially inclusive green economy. The estimated 9,000 WED activities held worldwide included tree planting and the official launch of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) in Brazil.
5 June 2012: Energy Globe has launched a global online campaign on energy efficiency and best practices, with support from the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
5 June 2012: The World Bank has released its new Environment Strategy for 2012-2022 with the aim of supporting countries' efforts to secure a sustainable future through initiatives that are green, clean and resilient.
16 May 2012: The fourth issue of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) Corporate Sustainability Forum Bulletin provide updates on preparations for the Forum, titled "Innovation and Collaboration for the Future We Want." The Forum is expected to include over 100 sessions focused on six themes: Energy and Climate, Water and Ecosystems, Agriculture and Food, Social Development, Urbanization and Cities, and Economics and Finance. 
5 June 2012: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has installed solar panels on the rooftop of its headquarters located in Manila, the Philippines, in an effort to provide clean, renewable energy to the ADB office.
4 June 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has launched a call for submissions for projects that are currently contributing to climate change mitigation or adaptation, while delivering social benefits. Submissions will be received from 1 June to 13 July 2012, as part of the Momentum for Change Initiative, which aims at showing the multiple benefits of addressing climate change.
31 May 2012: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a US$100 million loan to support Panama in its efforts to reduce vulnerability to natural disasters and climate change.
9 May 2012: The Knowledge Exchange Forum 2012 of the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP) of the World Bank provided an opportunity for energy sector practitioners to exchange views and experiences on pressing energy challenges.
1 June 2012: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) has announced that the Ibero-American Union of Municipalities (UIM) is now an official partner of UNISDR's Making Cities Resilient Campaign.
31 May 2012: The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) have released a joint study titled "Working towards sustainable development: Opportunities for decent work and social inclusion in a green economy,” which highlights that the transformation to a greener economy could generate 15 to 60 million additional jobs globally over the next two decades and lift tens of millions of workers out of poverty.
