World Bank Highlights Climate Change Impacts on Africa, Asia and the Coastal Poor [viewed]

UN-HABITAT, UNISDR Launch DRR, CCA Technical Centre for Southern Africa [viewed]

unhabitat-unisdr15 June 2013: The UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) and the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) launched a Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) Technical Centre for Southern Africa, known as 'DIMSUR.' Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique and the Comoros requested UN-HABITAT and UNISDR to facilitate the process to establish the Centre, which aims to reduce vulnerability and build community resilience in the four countries.

SDSN Proposes 10 Sustainable Development Goals [viewed]

unsdsn6 June 2013: The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) has issued its report to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. 'The Action Agenda for Sustainable Development' argues that a sustainable development path must be based on four related normative concepts: the right to development for every country; human rights and social inclusion; convergence of living standards across countries; and shared responsibilities and opportunities.

UN-HABITAT Showcases City Resilience Profiling Programme [viewed]

Unhabitat27 May 2013: The UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) highlighted its City Resilience Profiling Programme (CRPP) during a side event titled 'Building Safer and Resilient Cities and Settlements,' held at the Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in Geneva, Switzerland. CRPP aims to develop a comprehensive, integrated urban management and planning approach to monitor city risk resilience, including to climate change and multi-hazard catastrophic events.

World Bank Provides Guidance on Disaster Risk Management in East Asia and the Pacific [viewed]

World Bank3 June 2013: The World Bank has released a publication, titled 'Strong, Safe and Resilient: A Strategic Policy Guide for Disaster Risk Management in East Asia and the Pacific,' which notes that East Asia and the Pacific is the region most affected by disasters, experiencing both recurrent small-scale events as well as devastating large-scale catastrophes. The report calls on policy makers to invest in disaster preparedness to avoid undoing progress in poverty reduction and development.
