January 2014 Global Water Partnership Update [viewed]

GWP Global logotypeJanuary 2014: The Global Water Partnership (GWP) is engaging in a number of activities as the year begins and has reported on a number of meetings that were held at the end of 2013 at the regional and national levels. The GWP Central Asia and Caucasus (CACENA) and GWP West Africa (AO) Regional Council convened in late 2013 to approve activities for 2014, and national activities took place in Ukraine and Burkina Faso, among other actions.

APFM Highlights Publications on Flood Management, Forecasting and Mapping [viewed]

apfmJanuary 2014: The Associated Programme on Flood Management (APFM), a partnership between the Global Water Partnership (GWP) and World Meteorological Organization (WMO), has introduced three publications in the Integrated Flood Management (IFM) Tool Series in their January 2014 Newsletter. The publications address flood forecasting and early warning, transboundary flood management, and flood mapping.

World Bank AFDB21 January 2014: The World Bank, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the African Development Bank (AfDB) made a number of investments in the water and sanitation sector in January 2014, including in Albania, Bangladesh, Ghana, India, Madagascar, the Russian Federation, Togo and Viet Nam, for projects aimed at improving basic urban services, providing rural access to water supply and sanitation, expanding hydromet systems to monitor hydrological information, and improve the climate resilience of irrigated agriculture and water supply and sanitation services, among others.

World Bank Paper Outlines Options for Low-Carbon Urban Investment in Shanghai [viewed]

World Bank21 January 2014: The World Bank has announced a paper that presents innovative bottom-up approaches to help cities set low-carbon targets and identify cost-effective, low-carbon investments for meeting these targets. The methodology presented in the study, titled 'Applying Abatement Cost Curve Methodology for Low-Carbon Strategy in Changning District, Shanghai,' is designed to be replicable in cities elsewhere in China and around the world.

EIB's Climate Awareness Bond Increases to €1.5 Billion [viewed]

Eib14 January 2014: The European Investment Bank (EIB) had its first transaction of 2014 in the European green bond market, a €350 million Climate Awareness Bond (CAB) increase. Due 15 November 2019, the CAB is now worth a record €1.5 billion, the largest climate-themed bond in any currency.

IEA Releases Energy Efficient Building Roadmap [viewed]

IEA18 December 2013: The International Energy Agency (IEA) has released a report, titled 'Technology Roadmap: Energy Efficient Building Envelopes,' which illustrates how improving primary thermal barriers of buildings can cut buildings' total energy consumption by nearly 20%. The report offers policy guidance on how to encourage the incorporation of new building technologies into building retrofitting and new construction.
