UN-REDD Newsletter Highlights National Activities and Progress [viewed]

UNREDD Newsletter30 August 2011: The UN-REDD's August Newsletter reviews several national-level and global-level activities related to reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks (REDD+). The Newsletter states that Cambodia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Paraguay and Solomon Islands have begun the implementation phase of their National REDD Programmes, while Nigeria has begun its REDD+ readiness phase with activities including setting safeguards and inventorying national greenhouse gas emissions.

UN Secretary-General Releases Report on Agricultural Technology for Development [viewed]

Event: 2014 World Conference on Indigenous Peoples [viewed]

Per A/RES/66/296 the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples 2014 will be held as a high-level plenary meeting of the 69th UN General Assembly, and supported by the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (PFII). The aims of the Conference are to share perspectives and best practices on the realization of indigenous peoples' rights, including to pursue the objectives of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

UN Secretary-General Releases Report on Sustainable Mountain Development [viewed]

11 August 2011: The UN General Assembly (UNGA) has published a report of the UN Secretary-General that was prepared by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) in response to UNGA resolution 64/205 requesting the Secretary-General to report to it at its 66th session on the status of sustainable development in mountain regions.

Event: Second Regional Forum for People and Forests [viewed]

Human Rights Expert Reports on Maldives Mission [viewed]

21 July 2011: After returning from a mission to the Maldives, the Special Rapporteur on the human rights of internally displaced persons (IDPs) for the UN Human Rights Council, Chaloka Beyani, stressed that the negative effects of climate change on peoples' rights such as the right to housing, and safe water and livelihoods are being felt across many islands.
