UNU, IPCC Convene Workshop on Indigenous Knowledge for Climate Mitigation [viewed]

2 April 2012: The UN University (UNU) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) convened a three-day workshop on “Climate Change Mitigation with Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples: Practices, Lessons Learned and Prospects.” Participants examined how mitigation efforts can impact indigenous peoples and local communities, and what barriers exist to their involvement and their capacity to benefit.

CCAD Workshop Considers REDD Strategies and Plans [viewed]

22 March 2012: The regional workshop on the follow up of the programme for reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation of forests in developing countries (REDD), implemented by the Central American Commission on Environment Development (CCAD) and the German Development Cooperation Agency (GIZ) (REDD/CCAD-GIZ Programme), discussed regional and national strategies to be implemented during 2012 by the eight member countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA).

Event: Eighth African Development Forum [viewed]

The eighth African Development Forum (ADF) is being held under the theme "Governing and Harnessing Natural Resources for Africa's Development". The ADF will provide a forum for the presentation of the latest research results, opinions and developments within the following six areas: knowledge base, human and institutional capacities; policy, legal and regulatory issues; economic issues; governance, human rights and social issues; participation and ownership of natural resources; and environmental, material stewardship and climate change. The ADF is an biennial event of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). It was created in 1999 and is a multi-stakeholder platform for debating, discussing and initiating concrete strategies for Africa's development. It is convened in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC), the African Development Bank (AfDB), and other partners.
