Event: Fourth International Conference on Disaster Management and Human Health [viewed]

The 4th International Conference on Disaster Management and Human Health, convening under the theme Reducing Risk, Improving Outcomes, will take place from 20-22 May 2015, in Istanbul, Turkey. The conference is being organized by Wessex Institute of Technology, UK, and aims to address the need for academia and practitioners to exchange knowledge and experience on ways to handle the increasing risk of natural and human-made disasters. Topics to be addressed include: disaster analysis, monitoring and mitigation; risk mitigation; risk and security; safety and resilience; socioeconomic issues; health risk; and multihazard risk assessment.

UNECE Region Adopts Framework to Reduce Air Pollution from Agriculture [viewed]

UNECE12 December 2014: Parties to the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution (LRTAP) have adopted an ‘Ammonia Framework Code' to help countries reduce ammonia emissions from agriculture, which threaten human health, causing cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Atmospheric ammonia, a major contributor to air pollution, also leads to acidification and excessive nutrient loading, resulting in biodiversity loss in many of the most vulnerable ecosystems.

UNF Event Reviews Energy Access Initiatives and Progress [viewed]

Scientists Call for Recognition of Biodiversity in Climate Negotiations [viewed]

cbd-iai5 December 2014: A declaration prepared by a group of scientists calls for better integration of biodiversity concerns into climate change politics and negotiations. Scientists and policymakers presented the declaration to Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, Peru's Environment Minister and president of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) to the UNFCCC. The declaration asks climate change policymakers to take biodiversity into account while also recognizing the role scientists must play in providing timely information to policymakers.
