September 2015 Climate2 October 2015: During the month of September, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the African Development Bank (AfDB), the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the World Bank, the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) reported on new funding, and project news and other climate finance-related developments. Multilateral development banks, climate funds, and others released studies, briefs and reports, including on carbon pricing and climate resilience, and reported on events on climate finance readiness and disaster risk financing.

Major Economies Forum Meets on Sidelines of UN General Assembly [viewed]

mef30 September 2015: The Major Economies Forum on Climate and Energy (MEF) convened from 29-30 September 2015 in New York, US, on the sidelines of the general debate of the UN General Assembly (UNGA). In a statement to the MEF, US Secretary of State John Kerry expressed his country's determination to reach an ambitious, effective climate change agreement in Paris, at the upcoming 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

New Permanent Observer Highlights Pacific Issues [viewed]

SPC logo27 September 2015: The Pacific Community, which became a Permanent Observer to the UN in December 2014, enabling it to participate in UN debates, made its first statement at the UN Sustainable Development Summit. Pacific Community Director-General Colin Tukuitonga highlighted climate change, youth, oceans and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) as particularly concerning to the Pacific region. He also noted that education is a fundamental building block for sustainable development.

IAEA Conference Highlights Links with SDGs [viewed]

Tunisia Submits INDC [viewed]

Tunisia Flag16 September 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has reported that Tunisia is the 62nd Party to formally submit its intended nationally determined contribution (INDC), which contains the Party's mitigation objective of reducing its carbon intensity 41% by 2030 compared to its 2010 carbon intensity level. The Party specifies that a 13% reduction is an unconditional goal, but that an additional 28% can be achieved, conditional on support from international financing, capacity building and technology transfer.

Event: Climate Week NYC 2015 [viewed]

The Climate Group is organizing Climate Week in New York City, US, to highlight the transformational actions and commitments that innovative leaders from sub-national governments and business are taking to tackle climate change. CCAC Working Group Reviews Draft Implementation Plan [viewed]

ccac_workingroup9 September 2015: During a meeting in Paris, France, from 8-9 September 2015, the Working Group of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (CCAC) reviewed and further elaborated on the draft Implementation Plan for the Five-Year Strategy, whose framework was endorsed by the sixth CCAC High-Level Assembly (HLA) in May 2015. The Plan, which the seventh HLA is expected to approve and launch on the margins of the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in December 2015, outlines critical actions for the period 2015 – 2020 as laid out in the CCAC's Five-Year Strategy.
