Event: Third International Conference for Small Island Developing States [viewed]
The Third International Conference for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) is scheduled to convene from 1-4 September 2014, in Samoa. This conference will include a high-level segment to build upon the Barbados Programme of Action (BPOA) and the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation (MSI), and will identify new challenges for the sustainable development of SIDS. According to UN General Assembly resolution A/67/L.66, "The General Assembly, recalling its resolution 67/207 of 21 December 2012, in which it welcomed the offer of the Government of the Independent State of Samoa to host the third International Conference on Small Island Developing States in 2014, decides that the third International Conference on Small Island Developing States shall be held from 1 to 4 September 2014 in Apia, to be preceded by activities related to the Conference from 28 to 30 August 2014, also in Apia".
30 November 2012: The Adaptation Fund and the UN Foundation have announced a partnership to allow donations from the private sector and individuals for the Adaptation Fund. The partnership was announced at a side event held on the margins of the Doha Climate Change Conference.
5 December 2012: On the sidelines to the Doha Climate Change Conference, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) organized a side event titled "Green Growth and Climate Finance Mechanisms: Bottom-Up Solutions From Developing and Emerging Economies." Participants discussed the role of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and balancing its funding between public and private sources.
5 December 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Risø Centre (URC) has published its December newsletter, featuring stories on its Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) project and electrification in Africa. It also spotlights initiatives and progress on the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), including support by both the Africa Carbon Asset Development (ACAD) Partnership and UNEP Risø's Green Facility, capacity building in the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) region and loan schemes.
12 November 2012: The UN Secretary-General's Oceans Compact was the subject of a briefing held on 12 November 2012, in New York, US. The briefing was hosted by Achim Steiner, Chair of the High-level Committee on Programmes (HLCP) and Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and Patricia O'Brien, Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs.
29 November 2012: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released a report highlighting its contribution to climate change adaptation and mitigation in forests.
27 November 2012: The Philippines Climate Change Commission, the Federal Office for the Environment Switzerland, the Ateneo School of Government and Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation jointly convened a side event on common guidance for safeguards on REDD+. The event included the presentation of results of a joint initiative between Switzerland and the Philippines.
26 November 2012: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved the final segment of a four-part programmatic policy-based loan (PBL) to develop Peru's new sustainable energy matrix (NSEM).
