AfDB Launches Green Growth Framework [viewed]

AfDB30 September 2014: The African Development Bank (AfDB) has released its Green Growth Framework, which will serve as a basis for its future work on green growth. The framework, titled ‘Entry points for action for transition to Green Growth in Africa,' aims to provide Bank staff with a common understanding on the principles and practice of green growth and on entry points for engaging with member countries in transitioning towards green growth.

UNGA Debate Concludes with Focus on 2015 Agreement, Link to Sustainable Development [viewed]

Closing the Debate on 30 September, UNGA President Sam Kutesa urged Member States to “make real and meaningful change in the livelihoods of humanity and the health of our planet.”

Meetings of the CBD and its Protocols Open in Pyeongchang [viewed]

CBD29 September 2014: The seventh Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (Cartagena Protocol COP/MOP 7) has opened in Pyeongchang, the Republic of Korea. It will be followed by the twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP 12), which will run from 6-17 October 2014, also in Pyeongchang, and the first Meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS) (NP COP/MOP 1), which will be held during the second week of CBD COP 12, from 13-17 October 2014.

UNGA General Debate 2014 Addresses Climate Agreement, Financing, SIDS [viewed]

United Nations27 September 2014: During days three and four of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) General Debate 2014, many speakers addressed climate change. Speakers focused on international and national action, including transitions to renewable energy, and financing. Small island developing States (SIDS) particularly urged action, emphasizing they are already experiencing adverse effects on food and water security, biodiversity and oceans.

Event: 25th Annual SPREP Meeting [viewed]

The 25th annual meeting of the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) will review progress over the past year, and discuss institutional reform, regional conventions, corporate services, regional cooperation, and the 2015 work programme and budget. The meeting of officials will be followed by a high-level ministerial meeting on 3 October to discuss climate change financing, ocean conservation and management, and countries' follow-up to the Third Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

Djibouti, Peru Accept Doha Amendment [viewed]

djibouti-peru24 September 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has reported that the Governments of Djibouti and Peru have accepted the Doha Amendment, which formalizes commitments for the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol (2013-2020). This brings the total number of Parties that have deposited their instruments of acceptance to 17.

69th UN General Debate Opens, Addressing Post-2015 Agenda, Climate Change [viewed]

unga6924 September 2014: The UN General Assembly (UNGA) opened its 69th General Debate on 24 September 2014, at UN Headquarters in New York, US. Many Heads of State and Government addressed the post-2015 development agenda, including its architecture and means of implementation (MOI). Many applauded UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's UN Climate Summit the day before, with several calling for future actions, including a legally binding agreement on climate change. Speakers also addressed strengthening international security, reforming the UN and tackling Ebola.
