Event: Caring for Climate Business Forum: Innovation. Ambition. Collaboration. [viewed]

This Forum, to be convened on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference in Lima, Peru, will provide a multi-stakeholder platform for dialogue and action among governments, UN agencies, business, investors and civil society. The first day of the Forum will include sessions on mitigation, adaptation, technology, finance and other cross-cutting issues, such as carbon pricing, responsible policy engagement and long-term goal setting aligned with climate science. The second day will feature a high-level meeting on corporate climate leadership convening chief and senior business executives, ministers and other government delegates. Nearly 300 participants are expected to attend, including UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The UN Global Compact, UN Environment Programme (including its Finance Initiative) and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat are convening in the Forum.

Kenya Launches National Task Force on Anti-corruption for REDD+ [viewed]

The proposal, which offers concrete recommendations for a 2015 climate agreement, appears in a document titled, ‘The Way Forward: Five Key Actions to Achieve a Low-Carbon Energy Sector.'

Montreal Protocol MOP 26 Adopts 26 Substantive Decisions [viewed]

Achim Steiner, Executive Director, UNEP21 November 2014: The 10th session of the Conference of the Parties to the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer (VC COP 10) and the 26th session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (MP MOP 26) have concluded in Paris, France, with MOP 26 adopting substantive decisions on: essential-use exemptions (EUEs) and critical-use exemptions (CUEs); availability of recovered, recycled or reclaimed halons; and a Technology and Economic Assessment Panel (TEAP) report on alternatives to ozone depleting substances.

IEA Maps Multilateral Low-Carbon Energy Technology Initiatives [viewed]

IEANovember 2014: Noting the remarkable growth in new and expanded multilateral initiatives focused on developing and deploying low-carbon energy technologies, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has created a basic analytical framework for systematically mapping these initiatives and their component parts. It lays out the framework and applies it to an indicative list of such initiatives in its report 'Mapping Multilateral Collaboration on Low-Carbon Energy Technologies.'

CDM Accreditation Panel Makes Recommendations on DOEs Assessment [viewed]

UNFCCC5 November 2014: At its 70th meeting, the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Accreditation Panel (CDM-AP) agreed, among other things, on recommendations to the UNFCCC Secretariat regarding the numbers, frequency and timing for assessments of Designated Operational Entities (DOEs), with a view to ensure the integrity of the accreditation process.

PrepCom Agrees to Open-ended Negotiations on Post-2015 DRR Framework [viewed]

UNISDR18 November 2014: The Second Preparatory Committee (PrepCom 2) for the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) met to continue negotiations on the revision of the 'Hyogo Framework for Action (2005-2015) - Building the Resilience of Nations and Communities to Disasters' (HFA). Negotiators ended the session by agreeing to hold open-ended negotiations on the first draft, based on proposals put forward during the two-day meeting and anticipated amendments to be submitted by 20 November 2014.

GCF Launches Online Accreditation System [viewed]

green-climate-fund-new17 November 2014: The Green Climate Fund (GCF) has announced that private and public organizations wishing to be accredited as implementing entities to intermediate GCF funds can submit their applications online. Accredited implementing entities will serve as the means for disbursing funds to projects and programmes in developing countries.
