ADP Co-Chairs Release Draft Negotiating Text for Paris Agreement [viewed]

UNFCCC5 October 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released three documents in advance of the October session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP): a Co-Chairs' non-paper containing a draft of the 2015 agreement (ADP.2015.8.InformalNote); a draft decision on ADP workstream 2 (pre-2020 ambition)(ADP.2015.9.InformalNote); and a scenario note by the Co-Chairs on the eleventh part of the second session of the ADP (ADP 2-11) (ADP.2015.7.InformalNote), which will convene from 19-23 October 2015 in Bonn Germany.

October Update on Doha Amendment Ratification [viewed]

UNFCCC5 October 2015: Since 18 August 2015, the UNFCCC Secretariat has reported that Algeria, Bhutan, Hungary, Madagascar, Panama, Samoa, Switzerland and Thailand have accepted the Doha Amendment, which formalizes commitments for the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol (2013-2020). These announcements bring the total number of Parties that have deposited their instruments of acceptance to 49.

G20 Energy Ministers Convene Historic Meeting, Adopt Communiqué [viewed]

IEA Reports Accelerated Growth of Renewables [viewed]

IEA2 October 2015: The International Energy Agency (IEA) launched a report, titled ‘Medium-Term Renewable Energy Market Report 2015,' which assesses market trends for renewable energy in the electricity, transport and heating sectors. The report also identifies drivers and challenges to renewables' deployment and projects their growth through 2020. The report, launched during the G20 Energy Ministers Meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, on 2 October 2015, further assesses potential impacts of enhanced policy actions under an accelerated case for renewable power.

JI Supervisory Committee Approves 2016-2017 Business and Management Plans [viewed]

UNFCCC30 September 2015: During its 37th meeting, the Joint Implementation (JI) Supervisory Committee approved its two-year business plan and management plan (MAP) for the period 2016-2017. The business plan sets out the strategic direction for JI during 2016 and 2017, and the MAP outlines the work, capacity needs and estimated resources that will be needed to implement the business plan.

September 2015 Climate Finance Update [viewed]

September 2015 Climate2 October 2015: During the month of September, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the African Development Bank (AfDB), the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the World Bank, the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) reported on new funding, and project news and other climate finance-related developments. Multilateral development banks, climate funds, and others released studies, briefs and reports, including on carbon pricing and climate resilience, and reported on events on climate finance readiness and disaster risk financing.

Event: Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2015 [viewed]

The 2015 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) will take place in Malta, under the theme ‘Adding Global Value,' to discuss using the Commonwealth's strengths in international politics to influence and effect change on critical global issues. The meeting will take place in various historical venues around the country, while the Heads of Government retreat will be held at Fort St. Angelo. The CHOGM will hear views of the people of the Commonwealth through youth, women, business and civil society forums. The CHOGM is held every two years and is the Commonwealth's highest consultative and policy-making body.

Event: 2nd Session of the Group of Experts on Energy Efficiency [viewed]

The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) will convene the 2nd session of the Group of Experts on Energy Efficiency to discuss best practices and financial, technical and policy barriers to improving energy efficiency in the UNECE region. The agenda includes: a workshop on best policy practices for promoting energy efficiency; the report on the implementation of the Work Plan of the Group of Experts for 2014–2015; the International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development; renewal of Mandate and Draft Work Plan of the Group of Experts on Energy Efficiency for 2016–2017; and key messages for the Committee on Sustainable Energy. The Group of Experts on Energy Efficiency was established to carry out concrete, results-oriented activities that enhance energy efficiency, mitigate climate change, and strengthen regional cooperation in the region.

New Permanent Observer Highlights Pacific Issues [viewed]

SPC logo27 September 2015: The Pacific Community, which became a Permanent Observer to the UN in December 2014, enabling it to participate in UN debates, made its first statement at the UN Sustainable Development Summit. Pacific Community Director-General Colin Tukuitonga highlighted climate change, youth, oceans and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) as particularly concerning to the Pacific region. He also noted that education is a fundamental building block for sustainable development.
