UN Secretary-General Appoints Assistant Secretary-General on Climate Change [viewed]

Ban Ki-moon16 January 2015: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Janos Pasztor of Hungary as the first-ever UN Assistant Secretary-General on Climate Change. Pasztor will act as a Senior Adviser to Ban on climate change issues in the lead-up to the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC, to be held in December 2015, in Paris, France.

Event: Accreditation Panel of the Adaptation Fund [viewed]

The Accreditation Panel of the Adaptation Fund was established by the Adaptation Fund Board to ensure that organizations receiving Adaptation Fund money meet fiduciary standards. The Panel consists of three independent experts and two Board members, who serve on the panel for two calendar years. The Board oversees the performance of the panel and its members. Any organization that will implement Adaptation Fund projects must submit an application for accreditation providing documentation that it meets the fiduciary standards adopted by the Board.

Event: Global Conference on a Transformative Agenda for Official Statistics [viewed]

This conference, jointly organized by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) and the Statistical Office of the European Communities (EUROSTAT), seeks to respond to the increased demand for detailed and timely data to monitor progress on the post-2015 development agenda goals and targets. The conference will discuss, inter alia: the innovations in data collection, dissemination, access and analytics; means of implementation; and a framework on a transformative strategy for the global statistical system in support of the post-2015 development agenda. The event is organized as a High-Level Forum of official statisticians with the purpose to seek a broad consensus on the strategic agenda for statistics to be considered during the 46th Session of the Statistical Commission in March 2015.

Event: International Recovery Forum 2015 [viewed]

The 2015 International Recovery Forum will be organized under the theme 'Commemorating Two Decades of Lessons from the 1995 Kobe Earthquake and its Critical Importance to the Post-2015 Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction,' coinciding with a series of commemorative events on disaster risk reduction (DRR) planned in Kobe, Japan, for the month of January 2015. The Forum is being organized by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), the Asian Disaster Reduction Centre (ADRC), Japan's Cabinet Office, the Hyogo Prefectural Government (HPG) and the International Recovery Platform (IRP). The Forum outcomes are expected to provide inputs for the discussions on DRR at the forthcoming World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, taking place from 14-18 March 2015 in Sendai, Japan.
