16 April 2012: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat have reported that they received bids to host the Green Climate Fund (GCF) from the following six UNFCCC parties: Germany, Mexico, Namibia, Poland, Republic of Korea, and Switzerland.
16 April 2012: The World Bank Board of Executive Directors selected Jim Yong Kim, a US national and recognized health and development expert, as President of the Bank for a five-year term, beginning on 1 July 2012.
15 April 2012: Meeting at the VI Summit of the Americas, the Heads of State and Government of Western Hemisphere countries declared their support for participation at the High-Level Segment (HLS) of the June 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD or Rio+20).
April 2012: The Organization of American States (OAS) has sponsored a series of thematic "hemispheric dialogues," intended to generate recommendations on institutions and governance for sustainable development to submit to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) and the World Congress on Justice, Governance and Law for Environmental Sustainability, both taking place in June 2012.
2 April 2012: Following on the decision taken at the 10th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 10) to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the UNCCD Executive Secretary and the President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) have signed a revised Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding the modalities and administrative operations of the Global Mechanism (GM).
The 67th regular session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 67) will convene at UN Headquarters on Tuesday, 18 September 2012, at 3:00 pm. The General Debate will open on Tuesday, 25 September. The preliminary list of items to be included in the provisional agenda is contained in document A/67/50. A draft programme of work of the plenary is expected to be issued in July 2012.
26 March 2012: The Nordic Council of Ministers has reported on the outcome of a Nordic-Baltic biomass conference held in Copenhagen on 21 March 2012, noting the Baltic Sea region can become a leader in sustainable biomass production.
28 February 2012: A public dialogue on governance of sustainable energy and climate change mitigation in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) discussed policy policy challenges, needs and reforms necessary to improve energy access and security, and promote diversification source while mitigating climate change.
27 March 2012: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has published a piece on "Our Perspective," written by Olav Kjorven, Director of UNDP's Bureau for Development Policy, on the relevance of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), and the need to empower people and integrate environmental and social protection to ensure a sustainable future.
27 March 2012: Nordic Environment Ministers from Denmark, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Åland adopted the Svalbard Declaration on Short-lived Climate Forcers (SLCFs) under the Nordic Council of Ministers to reduce emissions of short life-span gases, including black carbon, which have a large impact on both climate and health.
