Event: 14th Ordinary Session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment [viewed]

The 14th Ordinary Session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN-14) will provide a platform for African Ministers to debate the key outcomes of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), and address other emerging issues related to sustainable development and the environment in Africa. The meeting will also provide an opportunity to the Ministers to refine their strategies on a common approach to engaging with the international community in the climate change negotiation process and in preparation of the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP 18), to take place at the end of 2012 in Doha, Qatar. The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has served as the Secretariat of AMCEN since its inception.

Clean Energy Ministerial Publishes Chair's Summary of London Summit [viewed]

7 May 2012: The Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) has published the Chair's Summary of the recent third CEM in London, UK, which took place from 25-26 April, 2012. The Summary reviews the events and outcomes of the meeting and also notes key interventions made by participating Ministers and observers in sessions on clean energy, energy efficiency, energy for all, and cross-cutting topics.

Caribbean Overseas Countries and Territories Council to Focus on Sustainable Development [viewed]

27 April 2012: High-level political representatives from ten Caribbean islands have formed the Caribbean Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT) Council, which will focus on sustainable development, including work on climate change and renewable energy, in its cooperation with the EU.

New Clean Energy Initiatives and Commitments Announced at CEM3 [viewed]

26 April 2012: Leaders from the governments of the 23 Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) participant countries, together with the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) initiative, have announced a variety of new commitments and initiatives to improve energy efficiency, increase the share of renewable energy, and enable energy access worldwide. These commitments and initiatives are the main outcomes of the two-day Third Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM3).

IEA Chief to CEM: Achieving a More Secure, Sustainable Energy System Requires Urgent Action [viewed]

IEA Report to CEM says Clean Energy Progress not Ambitious Enough to Remain within 2 Degree Scenario [viewed]

IEA25 April 2012: The International Energy Agency has launched a report, titled “Tracking Clean Energy Progress,” at the third Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM). The report is an excerpt of the publication “Energy Technologies Perspectives 2012,” which is scheduled to be launched in June 2012.

UNFCCC Shortlists Proposals for Hosting the Climate Technology Centre [viewed]

23 April 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report on the evaluation of proposals for hosting the Climate Technology Centre (CTC) (FCCC/SBI/2012/INF.4). The report presents the assessment by the evaluation panel of the proposals received in response to the call for proposals for the host of the CTC, including a ranked shortlist of three proponents that met the minimum thresholds as decided by the Conference of the Parties at its 17th session (COP 17) (decision 2/CP.17, annex VIII, paragraph 10).

UN Chief Executives Board Releases Statement on Rio+20 [viewed]

17 April 2012: The UN System Chief Executives Board (CEB), which brings together the executive Heads of the organizations of the UN system and is chaired by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, developed a joint statement to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) at its recent meeting.
