Event: 88th Meeting of the CDM Executive Board [viewed]

The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Executive Board supervises the Kyoto Protocol's CDM under the authority and guidance of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP), and is fully accountable to the CMP. It is also the point of contact for CDM project participants for the registration of projects and the issuance of Certified Emission Reductions (CERs).

Event: 9th Meeting of the Adaptation Committee [viewed]

The Adaptation Committee was established to promote the implementation of enhanced action on adaptation in a coherent manner under the UNFCCC through: providing technical support and guidance to Parties; sharing relevant information, knowledge, experience and good practices; promoting synergy and strengthening engagement with national, regional and international organizations, centers and networks; providing information and recommendations for consideration by the COP when providing guidance on means to incentivize the implementation of adaptation actions; and considering information communicated by Parties on monitoring and review of adaptation actions, support provided and received.

Thailand Takes Over as G-77 Chair for 2016 [viewed]

Event: 2016 GEF ECW for the Southern Africa Constituency [viewed]

Expanded constituency workshops (ECW) aim to keep Global Environment Facility (GEF) national focal points, convention focal points and other key stakeholders, including civil society, abreast of GEF strategies, policies and procedures and to encourage coordination. They provide an opportunity for focal points to meet with their counterparts from other countries in the region and GEF partners to review policies and procedures and share lessons and experiences from the development and implementation of GEF projects and their integration into national policy frameworks.

Event: 16th Meeting of the Consultative Group of Experts on National Communications from Non-Annex I Parties to the UNFCCC [viewed]

The 16th Meeting of the Consultative Group of Experts (CGE) on National Communications from Non-Annex I Parties to the UNFCCC will meet in Bonn, Germany. The CGE was established by the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UNFCCC in order to improve national communications and the Biennial Update Reports (BURs) from developing countries through technical advice and support. This group is the main technical support element under the Convention to assist developing country Parties in meeting reporting obligations. The CGE meets to develop its work programme, revise its rules of procedure, assess progress in implementing its work programme and provide recommendations. It also organizes workshops for the preparation of national communications and BURs using CGE training materials.

IMF Experts Call for Carbon Pricing to Implement Paris Agreement [viewed]

IMF11 January 2016: In a report published as part of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Staff Discussion Note (SDN) series, experts examine the role that fiscal polices can play in assisting countries to implement the Paris Agreement adopted at the end of 2015. The paper, titled 'After Paris: Fiscal, Macroeconomic, and Financial Implications of Climate Change,' considers how developing and developed countries alike can prevent deaths, raise revenue for adaptation and attract private finance flows for mitigation by getting fiscal policies right, with a focus on carbon pricing.

Event: IPCC Executive Committee Meeting [viewed]

The Executive Committee of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) aims to: strengthen and facilitate timely and effective implementation of the IPCC's programme of work; strengthen coordination between IPCC Working Groups and Task Forces; and address issues that require prompt attention by the IPCC between Panel sessions. The Committee was established by the Panel in response to recommendations made by the InterAcademy Council (IAC), which was requested, in 2010, to carry out a review of the IPCC's processes and procedures.
