Event: VII BRICS Summit [viewed]

The Seventh Summit of the BRICS (Brazil, the Russian Federation, India, China and South Africa) will be held from 9-10 July 2015, in Ufa, the Russian Federation. The host country has signaled it will: ensure the continuity of the group's operation; take into account priorities put forward during the Brazilian presidency of the BRICS; and seek to enrich the group's work with new ideas, and strengthen its role in international affairs and regional issues.

SIDS Conference Concludes with 297 Partnerships, Adoption of Outcome Document [viewed]

Samoa Partnerships Commitment4 September 2014: The Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) took place from 1-4 September 2014, in Apia, Samoa, on the theme of ‘The Sustainable Development of SIDS Through Genuine and Durable Partnerships.' The Conference produced an outcome document, titled ‘SIDS Accelerated Modalities of Action (SAMOA) Pathway,' which was negotiated during the preparatory process at UN Headquarters in New York, US, and adopted during the closing plenary.

Pacific SIDS Discuss Climate and Disaster Resilient Strategy [viewed]

spc-sprep-unisdr3 September 2014: A side event organized during the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) drew attention to regional efforts in the Pacific to integrate climate change and disaster risk management strategies, and advocated for a regional coordinating mechanism to oversee the implementation the regional strategy, expected to be endorsed in 2015. The event was organized by the Government of Tonga, in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), and the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR).

UNFCCC Announces Climate Heroes Documentary [viewed]

UNFCCC3 September 2014: As part of its Momentum for Change initiative, the UNFCCC Secretariat will launch a documentary on climate action during Climate Week NYC, scheduled for 22-28 September 2014, in support of the UN Secretary-General's Climate Summit. The documentary, featuring nine initiatives from around the world, aims to demonstrate how climate action is generating jobs and improving lives.

UNFCCC Releases GEF Report to COP 20 [viewed]

GEF UNFCCC2 September 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) to the UNFCCC. The report will form the basis for the COP to communicate to the GEF Council any policy guidance approved by UNFCCC parties concerning the financial mechanism.

Event: 2nd Task Force Meeting on the Future Work of the IPCC [viewed]

This Task Group meeting will consider submissions received from scientists, observer organizations, Technical Support Units (TSUs) and the Secretariat regarding: future IPCC products; appropriate structure and modus operandi for producing these products; and enhancing developing country participation in the IPCC's future work. The Group will also consider a draft Options paper prepared by the Task Group Co-Chairs, drawing on government submissions, and further elaborate, as necessary, to take into account submissions from scientists involved in preparing IPCC reports, IPCC observer organizations and other relevant stakeholders. The views and preliminary conclusions will be submitted to IPCC 40.

Event: Fourth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Carpathian Convention (COP 4) [viewed]

The Fourth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 4) to the Framework Convention on the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Carpathians (Carpathian Convention) will meet from 23-26 September in Mikulov, Czech Republic, to decide on the strategic policy direction of the Convention for the next three years. COP 4 also serves as the Meeting of the Parties to its Protocols on Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biological and Landscape Diversity, Sustainable Forest Management, and Sustainable Tourism. Participants will include environment ministers and high-level representatives of the seven Parties to the Convention. Parties are expected to, inter alia, review and decide upon a number of implementing documents, issue declarations and statements, and ratify the Protocol on Sustainable Transport to the Convention.

UN-REDD Discusses Legal Protection of Indigenous Rights in the DRC [viewed]

Event: 2015 Spring Meetings of World Bank and IMF [viewed]

The 2015 Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will bring together thousands of government officials, journalists, civil society organizations, academia and the private sector. The IMF's International Monetary and Financial Committee and the joint World Bank-IMF Development Committee will meet to discuss progress on the IMF's and the WBG's work. Seminars, regional briefings, press conferences and many other events focused on the global economy, international development and the world's financial markets will also be held.
