Event: Climate Summit for a Living Himalayas [viewed]

This summit is convened by the Governments of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal with support from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), MacArthur, ICIMOD, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The summit is expected to: outline a 10-year roadmap for adaptation to climate change; develop a proposal to secure all of the eastern Himalaya's temperate and alpine forests and grasslands for ensuring biodiversity persistence and maintaining ecosystem services; and create regional “adaptation expert groups.”

Fourth UN LDC Conference Adopts Istanbul Programme of Action [viewed]

13 May 2011: Over 7,000 participants, including Heads of State and government, international organizations' representatives and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), gathered in Istanbul, Turkey, to attend the Fourth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC IV) from 9-13 May 2011. The Conference aimed to assess the results of the 10-year Brussels Action Plan for the LDCs, which was adopted in 2001, and to agree on new measures and strategies for the sustainable development of LDCs into the next decade.

World Economic Forum for Africa Calls for United African Stance on Climate Change [viewed]

6 May 2011: African Leaders from South Africa, Gabon and Kenya, who gathered at the World Economic Forum for Africa in Cape Town, South Africa, have pledged to take a united stance at the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC in Durban, South Africa, in December 2011, with a view to achieving a legally binding agreement on climate change that will succeed the Kyoto Protocol. The first commitment period under the Protocol ends in 2012.
