16 December 2009: At a side event held during the UN Copenhagen Climate Change Conference, the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNECLAC) released a study that identifies the economic impacts of climate change on the region.
11 December 2009: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), together with the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and the Center for International Climate and Environmental Research (CICERO), has released a study on climate-induced extreme droughts and floods risks in the Himalayas.
11 December 2009: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has released a collection of three technical papers that present an overview of knowledge on "Climate Change and Implications for Fisheries and Aquaculture."
11 December 2009: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has released a publication titled "Catalysing Change - The UNECE Response to the Climate Countdown."
November 2009: The UN World Water Assessment Programme has released two publications addressing water and climate change, produced in anticipation of the discussions at the 15th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC in Copenhagen, Denmark.
This workshop will launch the programme of pilot projects and the platform for exchanging experiences on adaptation in transboundary basins. It will provide a forum for representatives of the pilot projects and other similar initiatives to share practical experiences and better understand approaches, methods and concepts regarding climate change adaptation in transboundary basins.
The third meeting of the Task Force will review the establishment of the programme of pilot projects under the UNECE Water Convention aimed at supporting implementation of the Guidance on Water and Adaptation to Climate Change and at spurring cooperation on adaptation in transboundary basins. The Task Force will also discuss future activities in this area, as well as cooperation with the UNECE Protocol on Water and Health.
2 December 2009: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) has posted two videos showcasing adaptation efforts in Thotomi Glacier Lake, Bhutan, and its latest efforts to develop the renewable energy sector in China.
4 December 2009: The WorldFish Center, a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), has released a publication titled "Climate change and fisheries: vulnerability and adaptation in Cambodia," which highlights the importance of fisheries for Cambodian livelihoods and food security.
1 December 2009: In his opening statement to the Women's International Forum held in New York, US, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon highlighted that, beyond being the most affected by climate change and other social problems, women must be recognized as principal agents in curbing global warming and achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
