Organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Asian Water Week 2013 will address ongoing efforts to reform water management policies and strengthen priority programmes. 26 August 2012: World Water Week 2012 is underway in Stockholm, Sweden, with a focus on the theme "Water and Food Security." The programme aims to engage participants on challenges posed by increased competition for water resources, driven in part by population growth and climate change, and its effects on agriculture and food security. UN-HABITAT Supports Flood Risk Management in Uganda [viewed]

UN-HABITAT23 August 2012: As part of the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) Kampala Integrated Flood Management project, Ugandan students are participating in a pilot meteorological data collection project. Their data collection activities are part of a larger effort to gauge Kampala's flood risk, and implement an integrated flood management (IFM) strategy and action plan.

REEEP Calls for Clean Energy Projects with Growth Potential [viewed]

23 August 2012: The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) has released a Call for Proposals for its ninth programme cycle, focusing specifically on projects with large potential for clean energy growth. As the maximum amount of funding per project is limited to €150,000, REEEP will give preference to projects that can provide proof of co-funding from other sources.

FAO Assesses Crop Yield Response to Water [viewed]

FAO22 August 2012: The UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) has published a paper, titled “Crop Yield Response to Water,” which compiles tools for assessing crops' yield response to water, with the aim of increasing water efficiency. These tools are designed to: determine the effects of water shortages on crops production; investigate impacts of climate change on crop yield; compare various water allocation plans; optimize irrigation schedules; and create strategies to increase water productivity and savings.

WWAP Publishes Green Accounting for Water Report [viewed]

August 2012: The World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP) of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has published a report, titled “Green Accounting and Data Improvement for Water Resources,” which examines the incorporation of water-related indicators into environmental accounting systems by the UN System of Environmental-Economic Accounts for Water (SEEAW), Eurostat, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the European Environment Agency (EEA).

Event: 14th Session of the WMO Commission for Hydrology (CHy-14) [viewed]

CHy-14 will meet in mid-November to undertake the regular business of the WMO CHy. The agenda includes: reports on the Hydrology and Water Resources Programme (HWRP); decisions of the WMO Congress and Executive Council of relevance to the HWRP; the HWRP contribution to WMO priorities; quality management framework - hydrology; data operations and management; water resources assessment; flood and drought management; water and climate issues; capacity building in hydrology and water resources management; cooperation with water-related programmes of other organizations; future programme of work of the commission; and WMO strategic plan 2016-2019 and monitoring and evaluation of the HWRP.
