In addition, the Global Water Partnership (GWP) undertook an initiative for climate-proofing water investment in the Caribbean.

Moldova, Ukraine Launch Adaptation Framework for the Dniester Basin [viewed]

UNECE23 April 2015: The Governments of Moldova and Ukraine have launched the Strategic Framework for Adaptation to Climate Change for the Dniester Basin, which will help the two countries mitigate climate change impacts, enhance transboundary cooperation and facilitate sustainable development. Having endorsed the Strategic Framework, the countries will develop an Implementation Plan, supported by the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

UNDP Climate Change Innovation Camp Focuses on Urban Resilience [viewed]

UNDP19 April 2015: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) in the former Yugoslav Republic (fYR) of Macedonia hosted a Climate Change Innovation Camp as the culmination of the country's first nationwide climate change campaign. During the three-day camp, the ten finalists in the campaign pitched their ideas, which focused on reducing human impact on the climate and increasing urban resilience. The winning two teams will receive US$10,000 to realize their ideas.

CARIAA Updates on Adaptation Projects in Africa and Asia [viewed]

The four consortia are: Adaptation at Scale in Semi-Arid Regions (ASSAR); Deltas, Vulnerability and Climate Change: Migration and Adaptation (DECCMA); Himalayan Adaptation, Water, and Resilience (HI-AWARE); and Pathways to Resilience in Semi-Arid Economies (PRISE).

International Mother Earth Day Celebrated around the World [viewed]

The UN kicked off its Earth Day events with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon speaking at the Global Citizen Earth Day Concert on 18 April in Washington DC, US, where he told the crowd, "Take your passion and compassion and build a better, sustainable world."

Event: Climate Change Innovation Camp [viewed]

Ten finalist teams that answered a call for innovative solutions to climate change under a UN Development Programme (UNDP) nationwide campaign in the former Yugoslav Republic (fYR) of Macedonia will participate in a three-day Climate Change Innovation Camp. The finalists were selected from 130 submissions to the campaign, which was launched in December 2014 by UNDP in fYR Macedonia. During the Camp, the finalists will receive expert technical advice to develop their proposals further and compete for a US$10,000 prize to develop their proposals into prototypes. Finalists have put forward ideas involving: bikes and shoes to charge electronics; 'Eco Taxis'; solar collectors and billboards; solar cooling devices; re-using shower water for flushing toilets; using smartphones to create reminders for shutting off lights and optimizing heating and cooling; a smart app for carpooling; promotion of alternative means of transport; 'climate cafés'; and green roofs and facades.

Event: AfDB Annual Meetings 2015 [viewed]

During its Annual Meetings 2015, the African Development Bank (AfDB) will celebrate its 50th anniversary and elect its next president. The meetings will be held under the theme 'Africa and the New Global Landscape'. The agenda includes, inter alia: the launches of the African Economic Outlook (AEO 2015) and the Africa Ecological Futures Report; discussions on youth leaders, gender equality, Ebola, agribusiness, Africa's Power Challenge, local currency bond markets, stock exchanges, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH); high-level events on the anticipated global climate change agreement and financing Africa's development post-2015; and meetings of the Board of Governors.
