World Wetlands Day Celebrates "Wetlands For Our Future" [viewed]

Ramsar2 February 2015: The annual World Wetlands Day was celebrated on 2 February 2015, marking the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on 2 February 1971 in Ramsar, Iran, and helping to raise public awareness of the value and importance of wetlands. Held under the theme ‘Wetlands for our future,' it sought to highlight the many ways in which we can all contribute to their conservation and restoration.

FAO, Malawi to Protect Farmers from Severe Flooding [viewed]

fao-malawi28 January 2015: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) is working with the Government of Malawi on a US$16 million plan to protect farmers from severe flooding, which has destroyed fields and homes, washed away animals and crops, and is threatening food security in the affected areas, including with disease outbreaks that could affect surviving livestock.

Event: Asia Pacific Resilience Innovation Summits and Expo [viewed]

The Asia Pacific Resilience Summits and Expo (APRISE2015) will feature: the seventh annual Asia Pacific Clean Energy Summit and Expo; the Pacific Agriculture Innovation Summit and Showcase; the Pacific Defense Energy Summit and Showcase; and the Islands Innovation Summit and Showcase. All the events will bring together stakeholders from the business, government and technology sectors to focus on resilience. Participants will explore solutions across the "global resilience pillars of energy, agriculture, water and security" for the vanguard communities in the onset of climate change. Energy topics will include everything from microgrids, storage, grid security and defense, to bioenergy, waste and water innovations, transportation, carbon utilization and renewables. In addition to covering related energy topics, the Agriculture Summit will consider, inter alia, precision agriculture, crop and yield innovations, and aquaculture innovations. On islands, the programme will include an examination of islands' resilience needs, including disaster and resource management.

Event: ICLEI World Congress 2015 [viewed]

The 2015 ICLEI (Local Governments for Sustainability) World Congress will be held under the theme of 'Sustainable Solutions for an Urban Future' in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The week-long triennial event will include: the ICLEI Council Meeting; plenaries on trends and targets, financing, accelerating local action and the SDGs; and sessions on 'Urban China,' water and innovative city leaders. Alongside the Congress, parallel events are planned, including an Urban Nature Forum, Researchers' Symposium and technical site visits in the city of Seoul. An expected outcome of the Congress is the collation of local governments' proposals into coherent themes and agendas so that they may contribute to the international debate.

The city of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Masdar are hosting Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2015 (ADSW) to promote sustainable development and accelerated adoption of clean energy. Concurrent events taking place during ADSW include: the International Water Summit; Abu Dhabi Renewable Energy Conference; seventh Zayed Future Energy Prize Award Ceremony; International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) fifth Assembly; EcoWASTE; and ADSW Festival. The events are expected to attract upwards of 35,000 attendees, who will have the chance to learn about the interconnected challenges and opportunities related to water, energy and electricity access, technological innovation and sustainable development through exhibits, panels and workshops.
