Event: Climate Change and the Post-2015 Development Framework: Developing Country Perspectives [viewed]

The Overseas Development Institute (ODI) and the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) will host a two-day event on environmental sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in London, UK. On 10 September, an event hosted by CDKN will share and discuss perspectives from the South on how climate change should be reflected in the SDGs. This will be followed, on 11 September, by a closer look at the food-water-energy nexus and how countries on three continents are managing the challenge of reducing poverty while developing sustainably. The event will be broadcast via webcast.

ICIMOD Reports on Women's Adaptation to Climate Change in Nepal [viewed]

ICIMOD14 August 2014: The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) has published a report, titled 'Women's Empowerment at the Frontline of Adaptation: Emerging Issues, Adaptive Practices, and Priorities in Nepal.' The publication outlines the vulnerabilities of women in Nepal, especially as climate change threatens rural livelihoods, and examines women's roles in adapting to a changing climate and natural resource base.

ICIMOD, GRID-Arendal Analyze Food Security, Climate Challenges in Himalayas [viewed]

icimod-grid14 August 2014: The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and GRID-Arendal have released a report detailing the food security and agricultural situation in the Hindu Kush Himalayas (HKH). The publication considers how food security is being affected by changing socioeconomic and environmental conditions in the region, including climate change and rising global food prices.

WMO Launches SIDS Website [viewed]

WMOAugust 2014: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has launched a small island developing States (SIDS) website to highlight its work with SIDS, given that they are low-lying and vulnerable to weather- and climate-related hazards, such as tropical cyclones, floods and droughts.

EEA Updates Climate Change Indicators [viewed]

EEA6 August 2014: The European Environment Agency (EEA) has published 13 climate change indicators, updating information included in its 2012 assessment 'Climate Change, Impacts and Vulnerability in Europe.' According to EEA, the period 2004-2013 was Europe's warmest decade on record, and many global trends, such as sea level rise, warming oceans, and shrinking snow cover, are having significant impacts on the continent.

Event: First Africa Regional Mountain Meeting [viewed]

The First African Mountains Regional Forum will take place under the theme, ‘Towards a Shared Mountain Agenda for Africa'. The Forum aims to frame a regional agenda for sustainable mountain development in African mountains as well as to enhance collaboration among African government institutions, academia, civil society and the private sector.

The Forum's objectives are to: identify strategic actions to address major emerging regional issues, such as climate change; and provide an opportunity for stakeholders to enhance understanding of common regional conservation and development issues, including challenges related to climate change, energy, food security and water in African mountain regions. The Albertine Rift Conservation Society (ARCOS) and the African Mountain Partnerships Champions Committee are organizing the forum in partnership with the East African Community (EAC), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

UNAI, CFR Host Discussion on Hydraulic Fracturing [viewed]

July 2014 Climate Finance Update [viewed]

EIB-CIF-AfDB-EBRD-World Bank-GEF31 July 2014: During July 2014, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) have reported on climate investments. Both the African Development Bank (AfDB) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) announced partnerships with the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) for a variety of climate-related investments. The World Bank also announced additional funding to be provided by CIF.
