UNEP Urges Action on Nitrous Oxide to Address Climate Change, Ozone Depletion [viewed]

UNEP21 November 2013: Increases in nitrous oxide emissions could exacerbate climate change and undermine ozone layer recovery, according to a report by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). The report also stresses it is possible to decrease nitrous oxide emissions, resulting in climate, economic, environmental and human benefits of approximately US$160 billon annually.

Event: 14th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit: Attaining Energy, Water and Food Security for All [viewed]

Organized annually by the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) since 2001, the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS) serves as a platform exchange global knowledge on sustainable development. In 2014 the conference theme will be "Attaining Energy, Water and Food Security for All" and will hold thematic tracks on these specific areas of energy, water and food security. These topics were chosen due to their centrality and interrelation in alleviating poverty and to creating a climate resilient and robust green economy, and the current threat to water and food security stemming from the current and growing overconsumption of water and other natural resources. DSDS 2014 will also award the Sustainable Development Leadership Award.

UNESCO Panel Recognizes Critical Role of Mountain Regions in Water Security [viewed]

Unesco14 November 2013: Water resources in mountainous areas play a critical role in agriculture, biodiversity, hydroelectricity and water supply, according to a High Level Panel Session organized during the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's (UNESCO) 37th General Conference. The panel, titled ‘Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources and Adaptation Policies in Mountainous Regions,' recognized the high sensitivity of mountains to climate change and discussed strategies for coping with climate change impacts on water resources in mountainous areas.
