EU Environmental Ministers Call for Stronger Links between REDD, Biodiversity and Development [viewed]

11 September 2009: Environmental ministers and senior officials of the European Union met in Strömstad, Sweden, with a view to contributing to the revision of the Strategic Plan of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) after 2010. At the High-level Meeting entitled “Visions for Biodiversity Beyond 2010 – People, Ecosystems and the Climate Crisis,” held on 7-9 September 2009, participants endorsed a target to halt global forest cover loss by 2030 and to reduce gross tropical deforestation by at least 50% by 2020 compared to current levels.

ADB Highlights South Asia's Vulnerabilities to Climate Change [viewed]

© ADB2 September 2009: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) presented, during the South Asia Regional Climate Change Conference on “A Vision for Addressing Climate Change Risks and Vulnerabilities in the Himalayas,” the preliminary findings of a study that highlights how melting Himalayan glaciers and other climate change impacts pose a direct threat to the water and food security of more than 1.6 billion people in South Asia.

UNDP Releases Paper on Scaling-Up Efforts to Meet Climate Challenge [viewed]
