Private Sector Forum Commits to Support Achievement of SDGs [viewed]

United Nations Global Compact26 September 2015: The Private Sector Forum resulted in more than 35 corporate commitments to contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including through investments in low-carbon infrastructure and solutions to make clean energy affordable and accessible. Also at the Forum, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the UN Global Compact and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) launched ‘the SDG compass,' a tool for helping companies to maximize their contributions to the Global Goals.

Montenegro, Mauritania, Ghana Submit INDCs [viewed]

ghana_mautitania23 September 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has reported that Montenegro, Mauritania and Ghana have formally submitted their intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs), bringing the total number of Parties to have done so to 68. In their submissions, Montenegro, Mauritania and Ghana commit, respectively, to reduce emissions by 30%, 22.3% conditionally, and 45% conditionally, all by 2030. Montenegro's target is in comparison to 1990 levels, and the latter two use a business as usual (BAU) reference level.

EEA Assesses Role of Green Infrastructure in Mitigating Natural Hazards [viewed]

EEA21 September 2015: The European Environment Agency (EEA) has published a report highlighting the potential of green infrastructure in mitigating the impacts of weather- and climate change-related natural hazards. The report, titled 'Exploring Nature-Based Solutions: The Role of Green Infrastructure in Mitigating the Impacts of Weather- and Climate Change-Related Natural Hazards,' notes the definition of “green infrastructure” as “a strategically planned network of high-quality green spaces.”

Equator Prize Announces 2015 Winners [viewed]

equatorinitiative21 September 2015: The 21 winning initiatives of the 2015 Equator Prize include a indigenous group in Brazil that inspired the film 'Avatar'; a conservation group in Indonesia that is saving sea turtles; a movement for pygmy rights in the Democratic Republic of Congo; and a community-based organization in the poorest region of Afghanistan that is restoring areas affected by conflict and creating new jobs. The prize is the "flagship programme" of the Equator Initiative, a partnership that brings together the UN, governments, civil society, businesses and grassroots organizations to advance sustainable development solutions.

UN, Peru and France Showcase Actions under Lima-Paris Action Agenda [viewed]

Tunisia Submits INDC [viewed]

Tunisia Flag16 September 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has reported that Tunisia is the 62nd Party to formally submit its intended nationally determined contribution (INDC), which contains the Party's mitigation objective of reducing its carbon intensity 41% by 2030 compared to its 2010 carbon intensity level. The Party specifies that a 13% reduction is an unconditional goal, but that an additional 28% can be achieved, conditional on support from international financing, capacity building and technology transfer.

TEC 11 Reviews Technology Needs Assessment Methodology, Innovation Systems [viewed]

UNFCCC11 September 2015: During the 11th meeting of the Technology Executive Committee (TEC 11) of the UNFCCC, experts identified policies and guidance to help developing countries identify their technology needs and implement climate change mitigation and adaptation solutions. The week-long meeting also addressed climate technology finance and highlighted innovative clean technologies.

UNFCCC Reports on Gender-Responsive Climate Policy Workshop [viewed]

UNFCCC11 September 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a report (FCCC/SBI/2015/12) for the workshop on gender-responsive climate policy, which was held during the Bonn Climate Change Conference in June 2015. The workshop examined how gender considerations are integrated into UNFCCC processes, especially with regard to mitigation action, and technology development and transfer.
