25 January 2012: In a statement titled, “The Future We Want” delivered at the UN General Assembly (UNGA), UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon outlined his plans for action over the next five years. He underscored sustainable development as first in his list of “five generational opportunities to creatively deliver on our core mission." His vision for advancing on sustainable development includes making progress on climate change, sustainable energy, and empowerment of women.

ITTO, BirdLife International Enhance Cooperation [viewed]

UNCCD Executive Secretary Addresses African Forestry and Wildlife Commission [viewed]

20 January 2012: In an address to the 18th session of African Forestry and Wildlife Commission and the second African Forestry and Wildlife Week, Luc Gnacadja, the Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), said "Sustainable forest management and sustainable land management are the two sides of the same coin. These two requirements must be jointly implemented within policies, strategies and action programmes if we want them to be successful."

UN-REDD Newsletter Highlights Launch of New Publications on Gender, Green Economy and Asia-Pacific [viewed]

18 January 2012: The UN-REDD Programme has released its first newsletter of 2012, highlighting the Democratic Republic of Congo's new national forest monitoring system, which was launched at the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP 17), as well as updates on Mongolia's REDD+ roadmap and details on three new publications recently released by the Programme.
