20 January 2013: The Energy, Environment and Climate Change Department (ONEC) of the African Development Bank (AfDB) released the second edition of the Bank's semi-annual report on its Climate Investment Funds (CIF) activities, which showcases expected results from projects underway in Kenya, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger and South Africa.
14 February 2013: The Indonesian National Council on Climate Change (DNPI) hosted a workshop on 14 February 2013, in Jakarta, to review progress on the development of a National Learning Strategy to address climate change.
February 2013: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has made available the report of the workshop on capacity building for pilot countries on the implementation of synergies among the Rio Conventions.
14 February 2013: The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) has released its 2012 annual report, titled "Creating the Climate for Change." In its fourth year of operations, the fund is in expansion with over 70 new countries asking for support.
20 February 2013: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has released a compendium of Global Environmental Goals (GEGs), aiming to inform governments and relevant stakeholders and promote cooperation in achieving their objectives in a more coherent and harmonized manner. The publication was announced in a UNEP Conference Room Paper (UNEP/GCSS.XII/CRP.2), dated 20 February 2013.
1 February 2013: The Congo Basin Forest Fund has launched a forest monitoring initiative to support improved remote sensing use for forest cover and forest cover change. The initiative, totaling €6.1 million, will also provide technical support for the development of forest monitoring proposals for funding under REDD+ programmes.
12 February 2012: The 2012 Annual Report of the International Energy Agency's Implementing Agreement on Bioenergy (IEA Bioenergy) features an article on "Biomass Feedstocks for Energy Markets," and provides an overview of activities of the Executive Committee (ExCo) and the 12 ongoing Tasks during 2012.
11 February 2013: Climate-related projects implemented in Namibia and Sri Lanka, and supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP), were two of nine projects highlighted by the "Momentum for Change" initiative during the December 2012 UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) negotiations held in Doha, Qatar. The initiative, organized by the UNFCCC Secretariat, highlights positive developments in climate change adaptation and mitigation that have the potential to be replicated elsewhere.
February 2013: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UNEP Risø Centre have launched a report, titled "Translating lessons learned from financing forest projects into national REDD+ strategy development and implementation." The report uses examples from eight projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America to generate advice on structuring national REDD+ programmes, which it says offer the greatest potential for scaling up investment in REDD+.
The Third Session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee for a Legally Binding Agreement on Forests in Europe (INC-Forests3) will reconvene to discuss, inter alia, the decision on whether to adopt the Legally Binding Agreement (LBA) as a UN treaty, finance, compliance and the roadmap for negotiations through to the Extraordinary Ministerial Conference of FOREST EUROPE, scheduled for late 2013 in Madrid, Spain, where the results of the LBA negotiations will be presented to ministers.
