UNFCCC Secretariat Releases Denmark and Japan's GHG Inventories [viewed]

© UNFCCC15 April 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report of the individual review of the greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory submissions of Denmark and Japan submitted in 2007 and 2008 (FCCC/ARR/2008/DNK) and (FCCC/AAR/2008/JPN). The expert review team (ERT) finds both inventories to be generally in line with the Revised 1996 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Guidelines, the IPCC good practice guidance and the IPCC good practice guidance for land use, land-use change and Forestry (LULUCF).

© IEA21 April 2009: During the annual meeting of COGEN Europe (the European Association for the Promotion of Cogeneration), which is taking place in Brussels, Belgium, from 21-22 April 2009, Tom Kerr, International Energy Agency (IEA) Senior Energy Analyst, launched a new IEA report titled “Cogeneration and District Energy: Sustainable Energy Technologies for Today…and Tomorrow.” The report highlights that cogeneration and district energy – technologies that are widely available and cost‐effective – can largely contribute to global energy security and climate change mitigation.

18 April 2009: Addressing the Fifth Summit of the Americas, which took place in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, from 17-19 April 2009, US President Barack Obama proposed the creation of a new Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas “that can forge progress to a more secure and sustainable future.” The proposed partnership would promote renewable energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the promotion of energy efficiency and investments in infrastructure and renewable sources of energy.
