UNEP Releases Green Economy Preview Report [viewed]

May 2010: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has produced  “Green Economy Report: A preview” on the occasion of the first session of the Preparatory Committee for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD or Rio+20), taking place from 17-19 May 2010, at UN Headquarters in New York, US. The brochure, based on draft material available to date, provides a first preview of three sectors that will be examined by the report, namely fisheries, transport and water. It also highlights investment and policy reform opportunities to transition to a Green Economy.

CSD 18 Reviews Policies Related to Transport, Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns [viewed]

14 May 2010: Delegates at the 18th session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD 18) focused on the thematic cluster of transport, chemicals, waste management, mining, and sustainable consumption and production patterns, and conducted a one-day preparatory committee meeting for the five-year high-level review of the Mauritius Strategy for the Implementation (MSI+5) of the Barbados Plan of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

UN-HABITAT Conference Adopts Declaration on Green Building for Africa [viewed]

14 May 2010:  The UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) held a conference on Promoting Green Building Rating in Africa from 4-6 May 2010, at its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. The event brought together experts, practitioners and decision makers from 20 African countries and concluded with the adoption of a declaration to promote and foster green building practices in Africa.

IEA Releases Two Solar Technology Roadmaps [viewed]

11 May 2010: The International Energy Agency (IEA) has released two Roadmaps on Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) and Photovoltaic (PV) electricity production during the Mediterranean Solar Plan Conference taking place in Valencia, Spain, from 11-12 May 2010. In introducing the roadmaps, IEA Executive Director Nobuo Tanaka underscored that solar energy could represent 20-25% of global electricity production and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by six billion tons per year by 2050.

Third Global Biodiversity Outlook Highlights the Linked Challenges of Biodiversity Loss and Climate Change [viewed]

Report of 25th Meeting of CDM Small-Scale Working Group Released [viewed]

7 May 2010: The report and annexes of the 25th meeting of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Small Scale Working Group (SSC WG), which was held from 26-29 April 2010, in Bonn, Germany, are now available on the CDM website. At the meeting, the SSC WG considered issues relating to baseline and monitoring methodologies for small-scale CDM project activities.
