Event: UNEP FI Global Roundtable 2011 [viewed]

Organized by the UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), this meeting will convene under the theme "The tipping point: Sustained stability in the next economy." The 2011 Roundtable aims to provide a platform for the global financial sector to: define what it expects to achieve at Rio 2012. It will include two plenary sessions, on: Systems, Stability and Sustainability / Lenses and clocks; and What the Earth Summit needs to deliver at Rio+20.

Event: 2011 Annual Meetings of the Bretton Woods Institutions [viewed]

The Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) bring together central bankers, ministers of finance and development, private sector executives, and academics to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, poverty eradication, economic development and aid effectiveness. A Civil Society Policy Forum, a program of policy dialogues for civil society organizations (CSOs) will be held from 21-24 September 2011.

Event: International Year for Sustainable Energy for All [viewed]

In December 2010, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming 2012 as the "International Year for Sustainable Energy for All" (Resolution 65/151), aimed at creating "an enabling environment for the promotion and use of new and renewable energy technologies, including measures to improve access to such technologies."

Since its inception in 2008, the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) has evolved as the world's foremost annual meeting for the renewable energy and environment industry. Event: World Renewable Energy Congress 2011 (WREC 2011) [viewed]

The series of World Renewable Energy Congresses (WRECs) are organized by the World Renewable Energy Network (WREN) affiliated with UNESCO. WREC 2011 will focus on future trends and applications in renewable energy technologies and sustainable development, including issues regarding: climate change; policy; photovoltaic technology; solar thermal; wind; energy end-use efficiency; bioenergy; geothermal; hydropower; sustainable transport; sustainable cities and regions; low-energy architecture; and industrial energy efficiency.

Event: IDB Annual Meeting [viewed]

The Boards of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) will hold their Annual Meeting to provide a forum for discussion among the institutions' Governors, most of whom are Ministers of Finance, Presidents of Central Banks, or other high-level authorities of the member countries. Representatives of multilateral financial institutions, development agencies, and private banks also attend. The program includes discussions on socially responsible development of natural resources, the future of oil in a carbon conscious world, and sustainable cities.

Event: 64th Session of the UN Economic Commission for Europe [viewed]

The high-level segment of this UNECE Session will cover two main themes: “Economic integration in the UNECE region” and “The role of regional integration and cooperation for promoting sustainable development in the UNECE region,” with the latter focusing on transport and trade infrastructure, and energy cooperation.
