Event: Fourth World Future Energy Summit [viewed]

Since its inception in 2008, the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) has evolved as the world's foremost annual meeting for the renewable energy and environment industry. In 2010, WFES brought together over 24,760 attendees from 148 countries including world leaders, international policy makers, industry leaders, investors, experts, academia, intellectuals and journalists to find practical and sustainable solutions for today's energy security and climate change challenges. Event: World Renewable Energy Congress 2011 (WREC 2011) [viewed]

The series of World Renewable Energy Congresses (WRECs) are organized by the World Renewable Energy Network (WREN) affiliated with UNESCO. WREC 2011 will focus on future trends and applications in renewable energy technologies and sustainable development, including issues regarding: climate change; policy; photovoltaic technology; solar thermal; wind; energy end-use efficiency; bioenergy; geothermal; hydropower; sustainable transport; sustainable cities and regions; low-energy architecture; and industrial energy efficiency.

Event: IDB Annual Meeting [viewed]

The Boards of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) will hold their Annual Meeting to provide a forum for discussion among the institutions' Governors, most of whom are Ministers of Finance, Presidents of Central Banks, or other high-level authorities of the member countries. Representatives of multilateral financial institutions, development agencies, and private banks also attend. The program includes discussions on socially responsible development of natural resources, the future of oil in a carbon conscious world, and sustainable cities.

Event: Vienna Energy Conference 2011 (VEC 2011) [viewed]

This Conference, organized by the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), will convene under the banner “Energy for All: Time for Action.” Core themes to be addressed will include: agreeing on a common understanding of energy access; agreeing on a strategy to ensure universal access to modern energy services and increase energy efficiency by reducing energy intensity by 40% until 2030; identifying indicative targets and policies in support of these objectives; and prioritizing key national and regional actions on energy access and energy efficiency.

Event: 40th GEF Council Meeting [viewed]

The GEF Council functions as the main governing body of the GEF. Its 32 members meet twice a year, with each representing a group of countries (‘constituency') including both donors and recipients of GEF funding. GEF funding is channeled to several focal areas, namely: biological diversity, climate change, international waters, land degradation, ozone layer depletion and persistent organic pollutants.
