30 November 2009: The 12th EU-China Summit, held on 30 November 2009, in Nanjing, China, was dominated by discussions on climate change negotiations and cooperation. During the Summit, Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao reiterated his country's commitment to reducing carbon dioxide intensity in the economy by 40 to 50% by the year 2020, stressing that China is still a developing country at a sensitive stage in its industrial development, and that its per capita emissions are still below that of developed countries.
November 2009: The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the International Energy Agency (IEA) have released a paper titled "National and Sectoral GHG Mitigation Potential: A Comparison Across Models," which compares model estimates of national and sectoral greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation potential across six key OECD GHG-emitting economies: Australia, Canada, the EU, Japan, Mexico and the US.
November 2009: The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the International Energy Agency (IEA) have released a paper titled "Financing Climate Change Mitigation: Towards a Framework for Measurement, Reporting and Verification," which highlights existing knowledge and information about a range of different types of mitigation support and outlines a structure for a future framework for measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) to provide greater accountability and transparency.
12 November 2009: Kandeh K. Yumkella, Director-General of the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), took part in the 2009 Annual General Meeting of the China Council of International Cooperation on Environment and Development, which convened from 11-13 November 2009, in Beijing, China, and addressed, inter alia, China's response to climate change.
23 November 2009: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Health Organization (WHO), with the support of the International Energy Agency (IEA), have released a new report titled "The Energy Access Situation in Developing Countries: A Review Focusing on the Least Developed Countries and Sub-Saharan Africa." The report indicates that over 1.5 billion people currently lack access to electricity.
23 November 2009: The International Forum on Energy Efficiency in Housing, under the aegis of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), is taking place in Vienna, Austria, from 23-25 November 2009, to consider a draft action plan for improving buildings' energy efficiency performance in the UNECE region.
20 November 2009: The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has announced the establishment of an online tool, the "Global Framework on Aviation and Alternative Fuels" (GRAAF), which will be used to communicate best practices, future ICAO member State activities, and other information regarding the development and implementation of alternative fuels for aviation worldwide.
20 November 2009: Speaking at the launch of a study titled "The Economics of Climate Change in Chile," Alicia Bárcena, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), noted that the impact of climate change in Latin America and the Caribbean will be considerable and stressed the need for the region to contribute to negotiations in the UN Climate Change Conference scheduled to take place in Copenhagen.
18 November 2009: The third EU-Russia Summit, which met in Stockholm, Sweden, on 18 November 2009, addressed climate change and energy among its priorities.
