8 March 2013: The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) are to initiate support of a €1.2 billion thermal power plant and urban infrastructure project in Sostanj, Slovenia. EBRD will provide €200 million and the European Investment Bank (EIB) €550 million.
6 March 2013: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has released a report on the costs of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in South Asia, titled “Economics of Reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions in South Asia: Options and Costs.”
6 March 2013: The Momentum for Change Initiative announced a call for applications for the “Momentum for Change: Women for Results” competition. This competition aims to showcase women's leadership and participation on climate change from around the world with the goal of inspiring decision makers and the public to support immediate, ambitious action on climate change.
6 March 2013: The World Bank has called on multilateral banks, governments, donors and business stakeholders to join the nascent Global Geothermal Development Plan (GGDP), which envisages fostering geothermal energy that is, at present, underutilized.
5 March 2013: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) Asia Pacific Regional Centre (APRC) has released a background paper commissioned by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that recommends the deployment of nuclear energy as an approach to mitigating climate change and increasing energy security.
5 March 2013: An International Maritime Organization (IMO) Expert Workshop recently considered the scope, methodology and assumptions for an update to the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions estimate for international shipping.
27 February 2013: The UNFCCC Secretariat has reported that the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) has now registered over 100 CDM Programmes of Activities (PoAs), achieving a new milestone. Under the CDM PoA, it is possible to have an unlimited number of similar project activities registered under a single programme umbrella.
1 March 2013: The Frankfurt School - UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Collaborating Centre for Climate and Sustainable Energy has released the second volume of its newsletter, including articles on: the Sustainable Energy Planning in Eastern Europe and the Southern Caucasus project; a market study for the Renewable Energy Performance Platform (REPP); and the selection of new Climate Finance Innovation Facility (CFIF) partners in Asia.
28 February 2013: The European Commission (EC) has published a Commission Staff Working Document on “Guidelines on Financial Incentives for Clean Energy and Energy Efficient Vehicles.” The document provides guidelines and proposes a common framework for using grants, loans, tax deductions, and other financial incentives to increase the number of clean and efficient vehicles in EU member States.
27 February 2013: In a keynote address delivered at the World Smart Energy Week in Tokyo, Japan, Maria van der Hoeven, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), has stated that the system-wide integration of clean and efficient energy technologies is essential in the transition to a sustainable and secure energy future.
