UNEP Makes Business Case for Eco-innovation [viewed]

UNEP5 November 2014: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has launched a publication, titled ‘The Business Case for Eco-Innovation,' which is part of UNEP's Eco-innovation Project. According to the publication, companies are facing growing market and regulatory pressures in the face of declining resources and environmental degradation, extreme weather events are impacting on business profitability, and global water demand is expected to exceed supply by 40% within 20 years.

IRENA Council Holds Eighth Meeting [viewed]

IRENA4 November 2014: The 8th meeting of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Council convened from 3-4 November, in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to provide guidance to the Agency's programmes and activities, and to decide on the agenda for the IRENA Assembly in 2015. The Council also discussed strategies to increase the Agency's engagement in global climate action, and received three new permanent representatives.

UNFCCC Synthesizes Work of the Forum on Response Measures [viewed]

UNFCCC4 November 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has prepared a note synthesizing the work of the forum on the impact of the implementation of response measures. The document (FCCC/SB/2014/INF.4) is based on views, information and review of the work of the forum provided by parties and relevant organizations. The 40th sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) requested the Secretariat to prepare the synthesis paper for consideration at SBSTA 41 and SBI 41.

IEA, ADB Identify Energy Efficiency Recommendations for Southeast Asia [viewed]

IEA: Morocco's Energy Strategy and Renewable Energy Targets on Track [viewed]

ICAO Asia-Pacific Seminars Discuss Environmental and Climate Action [viewed]

Icao30 October 2014: The Environment Branch of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) held two environmental capacity-building seminars for the Asia and Pacific (APAC) Region. The regional seminars on ‘International Aviation and Environment' and 'States' Action Plans' were held from 28-29 and 29-30 October, respectively, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and were part of ICAO's support activities to its member States in their efforts to take action on aviation and climate change.

World Bank Charts Zero-carbon Electricity Pathways for Climate Stabilization [viewed]

World Bank1 October 2014: The World Bank has published a policy research working paper, titled ‘Pathways toward Zero-carbon Electricity Required for Climate Stabilization,' which calculates the carbon content of electricity in a set of existing prospective stabilization scenarios, and shows that near-zero carbon electricity: is required for staying within a global temperature rise range of 2-3°C; can be achieved even if some key technologies are not available; and should occur in every major country or region in the world.
