EU, US Call for Ambitious Mitigation Contributions from Major Emitters [viewed]

In the statement, the US and the EU call on major economies and significant greenhouse gas (GHG) emitters to make ambitious mitigation contributions in the 2015 agreement to be adopted in Paris.

Event: UNGA Dialogue 1-2 on Technology Transfer Mechanism [viewed]

In UN General Assembly (UNGA) Resolution 68/210, Member States decided to hold a series of four, one-day structured dialogues to consider possible arrangements for a facilitation mechanism to promote the development, transfer and dissemination of clean and environmentally sound technologies. The first two dialogues will be held back-to-back, on 29-30 April 2014, at UN Headquarters in New York, US. The themes for these two dialogues are 'Stock-taking of the debates on development, transfer and dissemination of clean and environmentally sound technologies,' and 'Assessing fragmentation, synergies, areas of duplication and opportunities for cooperation between existing mechanisms and processes, thus improving overall coherence and enhancing interlinkages,' respectively.

The themes for the dialogue will be 'Identifying the potential for development, transfer and dissemination of clean and environmentally sound technologies and identifying options for the way forward'.

Event: Clean Energy Ministerial 5 (CEM5) [viewed]

The Republic of Korea is hosting the fifth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM5), which will gather energy ministers and other high-level delegates from over 20 of the world's largest economies to identify avenues to accelerate the transition to a global clean energy economy. CEM5 will focus specifically on identifying smart policies, programmes, and strategies to improve energy efficiency, clean energy deployment, and energy access expansion. It is also anticipated that governments will announce specific new commitments to advance these goals at the meeting. Participants include the 23 CEM government ministers and delegates, official observer organisations and other invited stakeholders.
