Event: Across the Regions: SIDS Solutions for Sustainable Development [viewed]

The Commonwealth Secretariat, in partnership with the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC), the Indian Ocean Commission (COI), and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environmental Programme (SPREP), is organizing this high-level panel discussion on the sidelines of the UN Conference for Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). The event aims to highlight the sustainable development concerns of small island developing States (SIDS). The event will also see the launch of a joint initiative to explore new ways to support climate resilient and low carbon economies, across the three sub-regions, through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU).

Event: CEM Carbon Capture, Use and Storage (CCUS) Action Group Meeting [viewed]

The Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) Carbon Capture, Use and Storage (CCUS) Action Group meeting, organized as a side-event during the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum Annual Meeting, will bring together governments, businesses, and organizations in the field of carbon capture and storage (CCS) to provide recommendations to policy makers and encourage collaboration on CCS. The CCUS Action Group is co-led by the Governments of Australia and the UK and aims to advance the deployment of CCS technologies.

Event: Measuring the "Smartness" of the Electricity Grid [viewed]

This free webinar, which is organized by the Clean Energy Solutions Center of the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM), will focus on smart electricity grids and methodologies to measure "smartness." The webinar aims to provide policy makers with practical policy advice in this regard. Dr. Leen Vandezande from the Electric Energy Research Group at the University of Leuven, Belgium, will lead the webinar.

Event: Renewable Energy for Sustainable Development [viewed]

This side event will be held during the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) and will focus on renewable energy for sustainable development, biogas, hydro-energy and biofuels. It will also include the launch of the International Center of Renewable Energy Biogas, in the framework of the Observatory for Renewable Energy for Latin America and the Caribbean. The UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will also address the potentials of sustainable energy solutions in contributing to employment creation and poverty alleviation. The event is being organized by the Federations of Industries of São Paulo (SFIESP) and Rio de Janeiro (FIRJAN) states, UNIDO, Eletrobras, ITAIPU Binacional, Brazilian Ministry of Energy, Roberto Marinho Foundation, the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA), and Rio City Hall.
