Secretary-General Assures CARICOM of Better Cooperation, Requests Engagement on SDGs and Post-2015 Agenda [viewed]

27 September 2012: During a meeting on the sidelines of the opening of the UN General Assembly session, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon assured leaders of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) of improved cooperation between the UN and CARICOM regarding trade, debt, climate change and transnational organized crime, among other issues. He also pledged to continue to raise the issue of the vulnerability of Caribbean island nations to the international financial crisis with the Group of Eight (G8) and Group of 20 (G20) countries.

UNW-DPAC Publishes Review of UN Publications on Water [viewed]

Event: ECLAC Technical Advisory Committee Meeting on the Economic and Social Impacts of Climate Change in the Caribbean [viewed]

This meeting is organized by the UN Economic Commission on Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), and will bring together technical experts and government representatives of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries, Cuba and the Dominican Republic to examine the results of assessments of the economic and social impacts of climate change on the agriculture, coastal and marine, energy, health, tourism and water sectors in the Caribbean.

FAO Launches Energy from Biomass Project in Argentina [viewed]

FAO25 September 2012: The Government of Argentina and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) have signed an agreement for a three-year project that seeks to triple biomass as a share of the Argentinian national energy balance by converting forest wastes, animal excreta and crop wastes into biogas and other forms of bioenergy.

IEA Study on Urban Buses Calls for Replacing Fossil Fuels with Efficient Biofuels [viewed]

25 September 2012: The International Energy Agency's (IEA) Implementing Agreement on Bioenergy (IEA Bioenergy) has published a new report, titled "Fuel and Technology Alternatives for Buses: Overall Energy Efficiency and Emission Performance," which assesses the emissions reductions potential and fuel efficiency of various fuels for urban buses, and finds that replacing fossil fuels with efficient biofuels is most effective in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emission.

Event: Conference of African Ministers of Agriculture and Trade 2012 [viewed]

Convened under the theme “Boosting Intra-African Trade for Ensuring Food and Nutrition Security," the Conference of African Ministers of Agriculture and Trade (CAMAT) 2012 provides a platform for African Ministers of Agriculture and Trade to renew commitments towards, and discuss strategies for, boosting intra-African trade to allow greater food and nutrition security on the continent. CAMAT 2012 will also see the rollout of the ccelerated Agribusiness and Agro-Industries Development Initiative (3ADI) programme, to assist smallholder farmers to attain greater market access.

UNGA High-level Debate Calls for Cooperation on Climate Change [viewed]
