Event: Integrated Approaches to Energy Technologies Workshop [viewed]

This regional workshop, organized by the Network of Expertise in Energy Technology (NEET) and hosted by China's Ministry for Science and Technology, will focus on integrated approaches to energy technologies. The workshop will consist of two sessions. The first one will be on energy security, economic growth and environmental protection, with a focus on sustainable supply, reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and socio-economic issues. The second session will be on creating the right policy frameworks, focusing on how guidelines and tools can be designed for policy makers to make communities more energy efficient, to reduce GHG emissions in transportation and to develop long-term strategies and plans.

European Commission Presents Options on EUETS Reform [viewed]

14 November 2012: The European Commission has presented options for reforming the EU Emissions Trading System (EUETS) to resolve the problem of supply-demand imbalances of emission allowances. The proposal calls for back-loading auction volumes in 2013 to reduce the allowance surpluses that have accrued during the economic crisis, and launching a debate on structural reform measures.

UNEP Risø Supports Pacific Island Country Participation in Carbon Expo [viewed]

UNEP Risoe12 November 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Risø Centre supported the participation of 12 representatives from Pacific island countries in the Carbon Expo Australasia 2012, which took place from 7-9 November 2012, in Melbourne, Australia. According to the Risø Centre, representatives from Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu attended the Expo.
