Event: ECLAC Technical Advisory Committee Meeting on the Economic and Social Impacts of Climate Change in the Caribbean [viewed]

This meeting is organized by the UN Economic Commission on Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), and will bring together technical experts and government representatives of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries, Cuba and the Dominican Republic to examine the results of assessments of the economic and social impacts of climate change on the agriculture, coastal and marine, energy, health, tourism and water sectors in the Caribbean.

Event: Latin American Carbon Forum 2013 [viewed]

The Seventh Latin American and Caribbean Carbon Forum (LACF) will discuss prospects for carbon projects in Latin America. Event: Transforming Transportation 2013 [viewed]

The World Bank and the World Resources Institute's (WRI) sustainable transport center, EMBARQ, will co-host the 10th annual "Transforming Transportation" event on sustainable transport. The 2013 agenda will discuss, inter alia: capitalizing on the multilateral development banks' $175 billion commitment for sustainable transport made during Rio+20; opportunities for sustainable transport in China, India and Latin America; integrating urban transport and development; improving transport health and safety in cities; and bringing shared bicycle solutions to scale in developing countries.

Secretary-General Assures CARICOM of Better Cooperation, Requests Engagement on SDGs and Post-2015 Agenda [viewed]

27 September 2012: During a meeting on the sidelines of the opening of the UN General Assembly session, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon assured leaders of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) of improved cooperation between the UN and CARICOM regarding trade, debt, climate change and transnational organized crime, among other issues. He also pledged to continue to raise the issue of the vulnerability of Caribbean island nations to the international financial crisis with the Group of Eight (G8) and Group of 20 (G20) countries.

UNEP and INTERPOL Release Rapid Response Report on Illegal Logging [viewed]

27 September 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) have released a rapid response report on illegal logging. The report, titled “Green Carbon: Black Trade,” estimates that the illegal logging trade is worth between US$30-100 billion annually and hampers efforts related to reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (REDD).

Second Workshop on Long-term Finance Focuses on Creating Enabling Environments [viewed]

3 October 2012: The second UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) workshop on long-term finance focused on approaches to scale-up climate finance and create enabling environments. Parties, private sector and civil society stakeholders held in-depth discussions on new and innovative sources of climate finance, various approaches and strategies to mobilize climate finance, and ways to strengthen developing countries' capacity for improved access to climate finance.
