Event: International Mountain Day 2013 [viewed]

International Mountain Day (IMD) is meant raise awareness about the importance of mountains, to highlight the opportunities and constraints in mountain development and to build partnerships that will bring positive change to the world's mountains and highlands. The theme for the event in 2013 is 'Mountains - Key to a Sustainable Future'. The celebration will focus on mountains' contribution towards sustainable economic growth and draw attention to their generally sustainable and low-emission production models. Organizers will also use the occasion to address the post-2015 development agenda and recall the need to include mountains in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

UN Secretary-General Stresses Importance of Climate Finance [viewed]

UNEP's 'Africa Adaptation Gap' Report Estimates Costs in Face of 'Emissions Gap' [viewed]

UNEP19 November 2013: A report released by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) reviews the financial and environmental costs that Africa will face if governments fail to close the ‘emissions gap' needed to keep warming below 2°C. The report, titled 'Africa's Adaptation Gap: Technical Report,' confirms the assessment of the World Bank's November 2012 report,  titled 'Turn Down the Heat,' that there is a 40 per cent chance global temperature will increase by 3.5-4°C if mitigation efforts are not stepped up.
