worldbank-idb-afdb-ebrd-gefApril 2014: Throughout April 2014, the World Bank, Global Environment Facility (GEF), Asian Development Bank (ADB), Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), African Development Bank (AfDB) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) approved finance for and highlighted results of projects across Africa, Latin America, Asia and Europe, as well as in small island developing states (SIDS) to: improve water supply and sanitation; build urban and rural water infrastructure; reduce water-related disaster risk and increase climate resilience; improve agricultural water efficiency; construct hydro-power facilities; protect aquatic biodiversity; and promote transboundary water cooperation.

Central American Countries to Join Risk Insurance Facility [viewed]

CCRIF21 April 2014: Finance ministers from Central American and Caribbean countries gathered during the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Spring Meetings to discuss how the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility (CCRIF) might be expanded to include Central American countries. Honduras and Nicaragua were the first Central American countries to announce they will become CCRIF members.

OWG Co-Chairs Issue Working Document with 16 Focus Areas, 140 Targets [viewed]

owg17 April 2014: The Co-chairs of the Open Working Group (OWG) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have issued a revised working document in preparation for the OWG's 11th session. The new document represents the latest revision to the set of "focus areas" under consideration in the OWG. It includes 16 focus areas and 140 targets.

Event: Fifth Africa Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction [viewed]

The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction - Regional Office for Africa (UNISDR AF), the African Union (AU), and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) will bring together African Governments, regional intergovernmental organizations, civil society representatives, members of academic institutions, local governments, private sector organizations, the media, and youth at the Fifth Africa Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in Abuja, Nigeria. The meeting is expected to result in an African position on a Post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction (DRR) in the context of the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Central Asian Experts Make Recommendations for Post-2015 DRR Agreement [viewed]

UNISDR2 April 2014: Participants at the Central Asia Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) underlined that "DRR is development," and must be incorporated into the post-2015 development agenda and the anticipated 2015 climate change agreement. The gathering, among other Regional Platforms convening around the world, aimed to assess implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) and determine regional submissions for the Post-2015 agreement on DRR to be adopted at the Third UN World Conference on DRR in 2015.
