UN Secretary-General's Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation Releases Hashimoto Action Plan II [viewed]

Event: Pacific High Level Dialogue [viewed]

This meeting will be convened by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), and will review progress made in implementing the Mauritius Strategy for the Further Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States (SIDS), which covers the decade 2005-2015. A regional synthesis report, which assesses the countries' achievements so far and proposes a strategy for future action, will be presented for endorsement by the Pacific SIDS Government delegates during the meeting.

IPCC Issues January Newsletter [viewed]

1 February 2010: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has issued its first newsletter. The January issue begins with a message from IPCC Chair Rajendra Pachauri, in which he reflects on the Panel's work in January related to the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). Chair Pachauri also notes recent media developments around the IPCC, but expresses belief "that the truth will prevail and the mal-intent of those who are behind the falsehoods that are being produced in the media would be exposed."

European Commission Allocates Almost €7.3 Million to Central Asia for Adaptation [viewed]

1 February 2010: The European Commission has allocated €7.295 million to help Central Asian countries reduce their vulnerability to natural disasters, raise awareness among local populations about environmental changes and provide them with tools to adapt to climate change.
