ADB20 April 2012: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has released a publication titled "Drying up: What to do about droughts in the People's Republic of China." The study explores the difficulties that China will face in supplying its cities with water and in managing more frequent and longer droughts in the face of climate change.

UNISDR Reports on DRR and Adaptation Writeshops [viewed]

19 April 2012: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) has reported on the four writeshops, which were co-convened with the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and conducted since 2010 in Thailand, Ghana, Costa Rica and Barbados. UNISDR underlines that they have helped increase the body of published literature on disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation.

UNCCD Executive Secretary Highlights Initiatives to Combat Desertification [viewed]

18 April 2012: In a recent opinion piece, Luc Gnacadja, Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), calls for action at the local, national and global levels "to give farmers the lead, and promote sustainable land use and re-greening initiatives." He also suggests that the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) should make this a top priority.
