UNCSD Secretary-General Outlines Eight Priorities for UNCSD [viewed]

13 July 2011: Sha Zukang, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs and Secretary-General of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), summarized his recent speech in Washington, DC, US, in a new post to his blog. He elaborated on eight “new and emerging challenges” that States and other stakeholders have highlighted for priority attention. The challenges include energy access, green jobs, sustainable agriculture, marine resources and financing.

UNCCD Organizes Workshop on Impact Indicators for Pilot Countries [viewed]

13 July 2011: The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) launched a pilot exercise on tracking impact indicators at the national level. The "inception workshop" for the exercise concluded with an action plan for pilot countries to apply impact indicators on Desertification, Land Degradation and Drought (DLDD), at the national level.

Finland Contributes to Rio Conventions' Gender Mainstreaming Efforts [viewed]

Event: UNCCD Impact Indicators Piloting Exercise: Multi-National Pilot Inception Workshop [viewed]

This Multi-National Inception Workshop will serve to launch the piloting exercise for impact indicators. It is organized by the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Secretariat with the technical support of the United Nations Environment Programme - World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) and financial support of the Government of Spain and of the European Commission. This event will aim at achieving a common understanding of the UNCCD indicator-based impact monitoring and reporting as well as at creating an informal network of professionals from the participating pilot countries that can support each other in the piloting process.
