This Multi-National Inception Workshop will serve to launch the piloting exercise for impact indicators. It is organized by the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Secretariat with the technical support of the United Nations Environment Programme - World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) and financial support of the Government of Spain and of the European Commission. This event will aim at achieving a common understanding of the UNCCD indicator-based impact monitoring and reporting as well as at creating an informal network of professionals from the participating pilot countries that can support each other in the piloting process.

The French Desertification Scientific Committee (CSFD) and the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute in Montpellier (IAMM) are organizing a research workshop/seminar on Policies, Programmes and Projects to Fight Desertification, in cooperation with the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Secretariat and its Global Mechanism. The workshop will provide an opportunity for a broad variety of different actors fighting desertification to clarify controversial points and improve the evaluation process to make actions more effective. The workshop intends to contribute at the international level to the preparation of the second UNCCD Scientific Conference and to promote French expertise within an international framework.
