FAO Launches Policy Guide and Learning Event on Advancing Agroforestry [viewed]

FAO5 February 2013: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released the first in a series of working papers on agroforestry. The guide, titled "Advancing Agroforestry on the Policy Agenda," is aimed at decision makers, NGOs and government agencies to promote the integration of agroforestry into national strategies.

CGIAR Highlights Climate Benefits of Coffee-Banana Intercropping [viewed]

21 January 2013: A study by two centers of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), namely the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), demonstrates large income benefits of intercropping coffee and bananas in Uganda, as well as evidence that intercropping may help farmers cope with climate change.

Event: GEF Expanded Constituency Workshop (ECW) - Cambodia [viewed]

This Global Environment Facility (GEF) Expanded Constituency Workshop (ECW) in Cambodia brings together GEF focal points, focal points from the main Conventions (Biodiversity, Desertification, Climate Change and POPs), representatives from civil society and representatives from the GEF Secretariat and the GEF Agencies. Building on the success of the first two years of ECWs in 2011 and 2012, the third session will further strengthen participants knowledge of GEF-5 strategies, programs, policies and procedures. Countries involved in this workshop include: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.

Event: Cambodia's Second GEF National Dialogue to Share Lessons, Identify GEF-6 Priorities [viewed]

Cambodia's Second Global Environmental Facility (GEF) National Dialogue brings together government agencies, civil society organizations, academia, the private sector and GEF Agencies to take stock of Cambodia's GEF Portfolio and share lessons from the Fourth and Fifth GEF Replenishments (GEF-4 and GEF-5). Participants will also learn about GEF strategies, policies and procedures and identify GEF-6 priorities and processes through a multi-stakeholder process.

The Global Environmental Facility (GEF) Familiarization Seminar will review strategies, programs, policies and procedures of the Fifth GEF Replenishment (GEF-5) through interactive sessions drawing from a diversity of participant perspectives. UNECE Releases First Review of Turkmenistan's Environmental Performance [viewed]

EU Conclusions on Water Resources Call for Improved Implementation [viewed]

17 December 2012: The Council of the EU has adopted Conclusions in response to the European Commission communication “A Blueprint to Safeguard Europe's Water Resources,” which call for better implementation of existing water legislation, including integration of water policy into other policy areas, such as agriculture, renewable energy and integrated disaster management.
