UNSG Reports on UN's 2013 Work, Highlights Future Challenges [viewed]

United Nations3 September 2013: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has released his annual report on the work of the United Nations. It highlights new global realities to which the UN must adapt, such as environmental degradation, increasing inequality within and among States, growing interconnectedness and rising unemployment. The report describes the UN's efforts to address these challenges through, inter alia, facilitating consultations on the post-2015 development agenda, addressing climate change, promoting human rights, tackling democratic transitions and maintaining peace and security.

PROVIA Identifies Research Priorities on Vulnerability [viewed]

UNEP Releases Green Economy Modelling Report of South Africa [viewed]

UNEP23 August 2013: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has launched a report titled 'Green Economy Modelling Report of South Africa - Focus on Natural Resource Management, Agriculture, Transport and Energy Sectors,' developed with technical assistance from the Millennium Institute and the Sustainability Institute, in collaboration with the Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies of the Stellenbosch University. The study assesses the impacts of green investments in four of the country's key economic sectors: agriculture, energy, transport and natural resource management.

This year's report, titled 'A life of dignity for all: accelerating progress towards the MDGs and advancing the UN development agenda beyond 2015,' stresses sustainable development as the "global guiding principle and operational standard" for the post-2015 era, and calls for ending extreme poverty within a generation.
