UNEP Invites Participation in GEO on SIDS [viewed]

UNEP27 March 2014: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has begun preparation of an Environment Outlook for Small Islands Developing States (GEO SIDS), to inform the Third International Conference on SIDS taking place in Apia, Samoa, from 1-4 September 2014. The initiative responds to the request of delegates at the Inter-regional Preparatory Meeting held in Bridgetown, Barbados, on 26-28 August 2013, for UNEP to dedicate support for a GEO specifically on SIDS.

CCAC Working Group Approves US$10 Million Investments [viewed]

CCAC3 April 2014: The Climate and Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short Lived Climate Pollutants (CCAC) has approved a new package of investments aimed at reducing short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) in the transport, refrigeration, agriculture, waste management, oil and gas sectors. The CCAC will also undertake a global information campaign on the detrimental impact that indoor and outdoor air pollution has on health.

IISD Assumes Management of Experimental Lakes Area [viewed]

iisd_logo1 April 2014: The Government of Canada, the Government of Ontario and the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) have signed agreements to ensure the continued operation of the Experimental Lakes Area (ELA) research facility. The ELA is a unique, whole-lake laboratory, with 58 lakes used for scientific study of stressors and pollutants on freshwater lakes and watersheds.
