11 April 2011: The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has published a report titled “OECD Environmental Performance Reviews: Portugal 2011,” which underscores Portugal's environmental achievements and makes recommendations for further improvement.
The ECW will bring together GEF focal points from Central American countries, focal points from the main Conventions (Biodiversity, Desertification, Climate Change and POPs), representatives from civil society and representatives from GEF agencies. 26 March 2011: The UN turned out the lights at its New York Headquarters at 8:30 p.m. in observance of Earth Hour 2011, a global event aimed at promoting awareness of the need to take action on climate change.
23 March 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has announced that, as part of its collaboration with the 2014 Winter Olympic Games Sochi organizing committee, it has submitted to the Organizing Committee environmental action plans that cover key areas including Zero Waste and Climate Neutrality.
22 March 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has released a report titled "Urban Water Vulnerability to Climate Change in Mongolia," which predicts continued dramatic climate change in Mongolia over the next century, including more snow in winter and less rain in summer.
23 March 2011: The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Methodologies Panel has launched a call for inputs from public stakeholders on the draft revised methodology titled “Baseline and monitoring methodology for the recovery and utilization of waste gas in refinery facilities.”
The focus of the summer school is on the climate change impacts on the presence of organic pollutants (POPs) in the Arctic and their effects on: human health; long-range transport of pollutants to remote environments (high mountain and Arctic); deposition and distribution processes in such environments; transformation processes in snow and ice; influence of climate change on cycling of pollutants; bioaccumulation in biota; and health effects.
28 February 2011: The UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS) has announced it will manage the construction of a UN Regional Hub in Panama City, Panama. The Regional Hub aims to be one of the greenest buildings in Latin America.
